Gluten Free Waffles

Hello,

I used to love Lifestream brand Buckwheat waffles but I haven't eaten them in a long time. I was eating them for several months but saw a return in symptoms and suspected those may have had something to do with it. I think I remember reading here a while back that others had issues with them too.

Anyone know if they have fixed any possible contamination issues?

Or - does anyone know of any gluten free waffles other than Vans? (I don't like Vans)

Thanks~

Trader Joe's has gluten-free waffles and they are delicious. My kids love both the plain and the banana. Kinikinnick also sells waffles, but I haven't tried them. They get rave reviews from others, though.

Wow - the closest Trader Joe's is over an hour away from me! I'm sure Kinickinnick is great - I like many of their products - I just can't afford the shipping and no one sells the waffles here. Maybe I can talk one of our stores into carrying them.

Thanks :)

What about getting a waffle maker and making your own? Make extra and freeze them. Would be cheaper in the long run. I have only made pancakes so far and they are a lot better than frozen waffles at the grocery store. I want to make homemade waffles though.

I have seen a lot of recipies in my cookbooks for waffles but have been putting any extra time I have into trying to cook new gluten free meals.

Good Luck

We bought a new waffle iron at Walmart for 10 bucks. I make a batch and keep in the fridge for a couple of days or you can freeze them. Just pop them in the toaster. My daughter likes them with homemade apple pie filling on top. I use the recipe from Gluten Free Quick and Easy by Carol Fenster. Our health food store is about 120 miles round trip. That is inconvenient! Last time I was there, they were out but I wasn't going to buy them anyway.

Kinnickinick makes great frozen gluten free waffles. They come in regular flavor and cinnamon brown sugar.

Thanks for the ideas. I haven't found a pancake mix I like yet, but maybe I can mix up my own waffle mix and just do it myself. I'll check out some recipes.

Thanks! :D

Pamela's Ultimate Baking and Pancake Mix makes really good waffles - recipe on the package.

If you can get them, my absolute favorites are the lifestream buckwheat wildberry gluten-free waffles in the purple box. They are the best I have ever had and I feel bummed if I am out of them in the am.

You have to be careful because they make many similarly boxed items and some are not gluten-free.

Kinikinnick waffles are wonderful!!! they smell like cupcakes when they are cooking and the taste and texture is great!

Donna F Enthusiast

Hmmm - haven't tried Pamela's for waffles. I didn't care for the pancakes much. Would the recipe be different for waffles I wonder?

Yes, I love Lifestream. I thought I was being careful to get gluten-free ones. I thought others had had cc issues with them and so when I started having trouble again I just attributed it to the waffles, but who knows.

I might just have to try those Kinickinnick ones if I can get my hands on them. I definately can't afford $10 shipping for a few waffles!

Thanks~

Welcome to the forum, @Ben98! If you have been consciously or unconsciously avoiding gluten because of the discomfort it produces then it is likely that your blood antibody testing for celiac disease has been rendered invalid. Valid testing requires regular consumption of generous amounts of gluten. The other strong possibility is that you have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) which shares many of the same symptoms with celiac disease but does not have the autoimmune component and thus does not damage the small bowel lining. It is 10x mor common than celiac disease. There is currently no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. Some experts in the field believe it can be a precursor to the development of celiac disease. Having one or both of the primary genes for developing celiac disease does not imply that you will develop active celiac disease. It simply establishes the potential for it. About 40% of the population has the genetic potential but only about 1% develop active celiac disease.

TTG blood test and total IGA tested on many occasions which have always remained normal, upper GI pain under my ribs since 2022. I had an endoscopy in 2023 which showed moderate gastritis. no biopsy’s were taken unfortunately. genetic test was positive for HLADQ2. extreme bloating after eating gluten, it’ll feel like I’ve got bricks in my stomach so uncomfortably full. the pain is like a dull ache under the upper left almost like a stitch feeling after a long walk. I am just wanting some advice has anyone here experienced gastritis with a gluten issue before? thank you

"Conclusions: The urinary iodine level was significantly lower in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis, and iodine replacement may be important in preventing osteoporosis"  Body iodine status in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis Low iodine can cause thyroid problems, but Iodine deficiency will not show up in thyroid tests.  Iodine is important for healing, its job is to kill off defective and aging cells (Apoptosis). Skin, brain fog, nails, muscle tone all inproved when I started taking 600 mcg (RDA 150 - 1000 mcg) of Liquid Iodine drops. Some with dermatitis herpetiformis, Iodine exacerbates the rash.  I started at 1 drop (50 mcg) and worked up to 12 drops, but I don't have dermatitis herpetiformis.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and I found myself giggling with happiness as I read how your body reached such spring! And I hope that your current journey is also successful!! Definitely starting the food diary! So many amazing advices. And it’s very scary. It really hits all our soft spots as well as our confidence system. Most doctors I went thought I was underage despite being in my late 20s. Right now I look like am I twelve, but is also this body that’s taking so much, so I might as well love it too! Going to make the necessary changes and stay in this path. Thank you again! 🫶
