Hi Texas!

Three years ago I was eating gluten without knowing it and I had vertigo attacks, migraines and general weakness. The neurologist said that I had some "Partial Convulsive Syndrome", nothing conclusive, and did not care about the fact that I am Celiac.

On my own I checked everything I ate and found gluten in Dannon Yogurt, which I had almost every day. Now, three years later, I do not have all of those balance problems but I still get bad headaches about twice a month. Only migraine pain relievers help, but sometimes they can only lessen the pain. They are pretty bad. I eat dairy, soy, anything else, I do not think those affect me, but I could not find a link between a certain food and my headaches. And I know I am gluten-free, but I the headaches always come back.

Have you noticed anything that you may eat before having an episode? They say that cheese and chocolate may trigger them, although I do not think that I have eaten them before my episodes. May be you have some kind of migraine. Why did you give up dairy?

Good luck!

I have been getting more headaces since being gluten free...maybe its withdrawl/body re-adjustment??

But I have also had a few other problems as a result of going gluten-free so the headaces could be related to that too, its so hard to pinpoint exactly where problems come from....

Your profile and your name don't really specify a gender so I'll pass on my migraine problems and what I do to help. Some of my migraines are because I was in a carwreck about 25 years ago (that started them) and the only relief I've found is regular Chiropractic adjustments. Another reason I get migraines is related to hormomal shifts during my monthly cycle. Estrogen can be a bear sometimes! Hormone levels peak and drop 2x per month (ovulation and menses). I also get headaches when the weather changes quickly. I use Maxalt-mlt for these headaches with some success. The best thing you can do is to keep a log of signs and symptoms for a few months to see what kind of a pattern develops.

Just a note about Dannon yogurt--Dannon can't be trusted. They have been notorious over the years for being unsafe and the only yogurts they will list as safe are plain yogurts...most of us do not want plain. Besides the fact, they do not dedicate their lines.

Now, for the headaches. There are many reasons for headaches, outside of celiac disease. My neurologist just diagnosed me with sleep apnea, which I had never thought about, and yes, headache is a major symptom. I also am getting physical therapy on my neck and shoulder, the muscles are all very tight, another cause for headaches. Work stress is a very big cause of headaches, stress of any kind, for that matter. Other allergies too.

I have suffered from migraines for about 7 years. I never had them until I was in a car accident. But I only got them right around ovulation and menses. So I dont know if the car accident was an initial trigger with hormones taking over.

I went gluten-free the beginning of April this year and have not had a single migraine so far. And I was at 2 a month. So this is great news for me!!

I also have vertigo/balance problems. And neuropathy in my hands and feet. The neuropathy is improving. And the vertigo was also becoming less pronounced.

However, I glutened myself on Friday night and have spent the entire weekend praying to God, Alah, Buddha and all the saints to make the room stop spinning. I am back to normal today.

Now back to the headaches. I did remove gluten, but at the same time started taking 400 mg of vitamin B2 and 200 mg of CoQ10 (both of which have been proven in trials to reduce migraine attacks and intensity). So mine was a three pronged approach and I cannot say for certain which one did the most to help.

But after being glutened and seeing how it affects me neurologically, I know it def. played a part in getting rid of the headaches.

I am in the process of lowering the B2 and CoQ to see what happens.

Hello, I think you are suffering with migraines. If so have you ruled out them being caused by MSG (Mono sodium glutamate)? I get migraines from MSG, NitrAtes (not nitrites) and sudafed. Keeping them out of my diet keeps me migraine free. I have just recently been gluten and casein free and I am HOPING that it will eventually rid me of the tension headache that I have had since early 1999 (24/7). Good luck!

PS MSG in all its forms (that *I* know of):

* Food Additives that ALWAYS contain MSG *

Monosodium Glutamate

Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein

Hydrolyzed Protein

Hydrolyzed Plant Protein

Plant Protein Extract

Sodium Caseinate

Calcium Caseinate

Yeast Extract

Textured Protein (Including TVP)

Autolyzed Yeast

Hydrolyzed Oat Flour

Corn Oil

From Autism book:E621, sodium hydrogen l-glutamate, flavour enhancer, aji-no-moto

* Food Additives That FREQUENTLY Contain MSG *

Malt Extract

Malt Flavoring

Bouillon

Broth

Stock

Flavoring

Natural Flavors/Flavoring

Natural Beef Or Chicken Flavoring

Seasoning

Spices

* Food Additives That MAY Contain MSG Or Excitotoxins *

Carrageenan

Enzymes

Soy Protein Concentrate

Soy Protein Isolate

Whey Protein Concentrate

Also: Protease Enzymes of various sources can release excitotoxin amino

acids from food proteins.

Has Dannon lied about their yogurt?

Years of experience, that's my source. We used to call Dannon, ask gluten free status, they would never answer. Then they told us (my sister and I) they do not use dedicated lines--they told us, THEY are the source. Dannon states they will not say gluten free, and this is from your own post:

formulated to contain gluten, but they cannot be labeled as

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
