Hi

I did a search for lipstick and ended up in this forum about other make up products also.

I am in a state of total shock.

If gluten-free makeup is that expensive, I'll have to go barefaced! No way can I fork out the kind of money charged for Bare Escentuals, or MAC. One year (before dx) I went all out and bought some Clinique products, but I couldn't see that they made me look any better than Maybelline and Cover Girl, so I went back to those.

I need help! Can anyone give me a link to a gluten-free cosmetic that is thrifty?

Now, I'm looking for face cleanser, a light conditioner and some lipstick.

Is there anything 'out there' at a reasonable price that I can feel safe with?

Neutrogena has a gluten free list and they have facial cleansers. If you would like I can post it here or email it to you

All Clearasil products are gluten free

Continuous Color lipstick by CoverGirl is gluten free

Certain eye shadows by Maybelline are gluten free(you have to check with each individual one)

Wow I usually don't buy expensive makeup but lipstick is the one area that I drop the bucks on (usually at Sephora, Dior, Chanel) I see a huge difference in the cheap vs. expensive stuff. There is something in cheap lipstick that when I put it on my lips in a few minutes I feel "something" almost like an itch in the back of my throat, then a few minutes later I start to cough. I know it sounds like an allergy but its just with lipstick and nothing else happens, it doesn't get worse. Its sort of more of a gross taste. Anyways that never happens to me with more expensive stuff. Sigh.

Not to mention for me the color stays put longer especially on glossy lipsticks, whatever they use to make the gloss on cheap stuff just slides off my lips right away on more expensive gloss you can feel its not a slippery and it stays put.

So I guess I need to contact those companies and Orgins as well and find out about their stuff.

Wet and wild lipsticks are gluten-free. I'm not sure about thier other products, but the lipstick is really cheap, between $1-$2.

I checked out cosmetics on the delphi forum lists.

Cover Girl... All foundations, fresh complextion pressed powder, extremely gentle pressed powder, continuous color moisture enriched blush, all concealers, all eye shadows, all mascaras, thick n thin eye liner, soft radiance eye liner, extremely gentle soft linver, continuous color lipsticks, and lip liners, marathon lipsticks, all nail slicks, except nail treatments.

Also just for interest sake...

Equate (walmarts brand) if you dial 800-719-9260 after dialing press 3 for medications or 1 for vitamins, key in the lot # of the product to find out if certain meds. or vits. are gluten-free. I thought this was great! Yet another hurray for walmart!

I switched to Bare Escentuals too and love it! and it is expensive, but it lasts forever because you have to use so little of it (and actually the less you use the better it looks.)

I would recommend going to a local ulta or sephora, if you have one, and they'll doll you up with it so you can see how you like it for free... and I can almost guarantee you'll have someone compliment you that day on how good your skin looks (yes, I sound like I'm a sales rep or something, but I swear I'm not )

I love lipsticks by Trucco (a line by Sebastian that you can buy on the internet). There are many internet beauty distributers that sell Trucco lipstick if you look on the internet. I checked today and all of their lipsticks are gluten-free. They have a great feel on your lips, like a matte finish, and stay on amazingly long too. My two favorite shades are Ingenue cream lipstick and Chakra rose cream lipstick.

Also, I contacted Biolage today re: their color stay shampoo and found out that this is NOT gluten-free.

I'm a product junkie, this is going to be a real chore.

We know Celiac is a serious disease, so we want to give you clear information

regarding the use of our beauty care products.  If wheat and/or gluten aren't

directly added to a product by us, these ingredients won't be listed on our

packages.  Like many companies, we often purchase the scents for fragranced

products from outside suppliers, and the components of these substances are

proprietary information belonging to those companies. Therefore it's possible

that a very small amount (generally parts per million) of gluten may be present.

We sought advice from physicians; they told us it would be very unlikely a

person with Celiac disease would have a reaction from a trace amount of gluten

coming into contact with his skin or hair.  This is because wheat, rye, barley

and/or gluten generally cause symptoms when they're ingested.  Since our beauty

care products are designed to be used externally on the skin, their use

shouldn't be an issue for someone with this disease.

Since gluten sensitivity can vary among people, it would be best if you

consulted with your physician about the use of all types of consumable goods, if

you haven't already.  You might even consider using one of our fragrance free

products that doesn't list gluten or wheat extracts on the label.

I don't take a chance with anything so I personally use all gluten free makeup and products. I mean if you rub your eye without thinking then touch food you eat then your food could have trace amounts. Just so much to think about.

Awesome! Let me know how you like it. Just a hint...make sure you add the base for your eyes before putting on that eye shadow because the eye shadow of that brand can barely stay on without it. I actually use a different brand of eye shadow in addition to help it stay on.

Fellow Bare Escentual Ladies:

Have you checked out the Bare Escentuals Addicts forum on Delphi Forums? I just found the forum a few days ago and I got some really good tips. Did you know that you can use BE on your nails and then put a coat of clear nail polish for a hint of color???? Cool Also, you might checkout "foiling" eyeshadows. I tried foiling today and my BE shawdow stayed on a lot longer. I also apply the BE liner with water which makes it last longer as well.

To get the "foil" effect you first you apply your glimmer to the lid dry, then you take your brush, dip it in water, squeeze the excess out, dip it in the same glimmer and go back over the gimmer with the wet brush & glimmer. They have pictures on the forum showing exactly what colors they used and the steps they've taken to foil. I'm pretty dense with eye make-up so this is helpful for me!!

Before, I was just using the foundation, mineral veil (helps to keep the foundation on and gives the skin a finished look), warmth and glee. The make-up is pricey but it lasts a long time. At first it takes getting used to but now I can put my make-up on super fast. When you first start with the foundation just use a small amount of minerals on the brush and keep buffing to blend. You can go back over and apply again for more coverage. Once you get the hang of it you can put more on your brush.

Oh, I love to change and blend lipsticks using some of the blush colors. I've heard you can even blend the minerals with chapped stick to make gloss.

I used Clinque for years and then it started breaking my face out. I switched to BE and I love it. A while back I ran out of BE and I got out some of my old foundation, while I waited for my order to arrive. My dh came home and said, "you've used your old make-up...haven't you!" Needless to say...I've never let myself run out of make-up again. Before BE I could never find a foundation that matched me skin color close enough. Your so pretty you don't need any help but the makeup is great too.

Today I bought Maybelline mascara and 2 cover girl eyeliners. They didn't say wheat on the back. Anyone know if they're safe? At this point I'm going to try them anyway! I can't afford to buy all Bare Escentuals, especially since mascara doesn't even last that long!

well, i watched the 'be' dvd last night on technique...and so far so good--my dh said it looked good i was a little nervous, but it turned out well. i haven't switched to their eye shadows yet..just the foundations/powders/lipsticks. it did take me longer than my previous makeup..but i'm sure it will go faster for me too. i kept getting it on my dresser this morning

does it seem to stay on as long as other makeup? does it wear off easier or come off on clothes? i did see the foiling in the dvd! the dvd was really helpful... i was glad the dh was gone when i watched it though...he would have been like 'what is that?!'

I find that my makeup stays on a long time. It's so easy to put on too. It takes me like 5 minutes to do my makeup now.

If you pull a white shirt over your head you can see a little bit of makeup come off but thats with all kinds of makeup. Aside from that it stays on. I absolutely love it and wish I had switched sooner then I did.
