Gf Mascaras?

I've emailed various companies, and I've found that Bare Escentuals mascara is gluten-free, but that is the only definite I can find. I'm in southwestern VA, where I can't find a lot of the more "exotic" brands, so does anyone know any other gluten-free mascaras (or eyeliner, for that matter)? (Clinique, Lancome, Estee Lauder, Neutrogena, or any like that)?

Hi, try ECCO BELLA - toll free (877)696-2220! I get their lipsticks at Whole Foods in Annapolis, and am crazy about their stuff. You can't imagine how relieved I was to find out that their products are (almost) all gluten free - after I found out I had celiac. They were really helpful when I called , and sent a catalog. They list the mascara a having carnauba wax, palmitic acid ( from palm oil), clay, methylparaben, propylpareben, and flower wax iron oxides. Call them and see if that adds up to being gluten free, I think it does. I love their lipsticks. Also I've been told that Mary Kay has gluten free stuff, but I've never used it. Okay, please excuse my ignorance :unsure: I can understand about lip glosses, lip stick, etc, but how likely are you to ingest mascara?? I don't wear make-up more than once a year (not really practical in the dog business!) however we do have a wedding coming up this summer that I should probably dress up for! :lol: Being the maid of honour and all... ;)

I could also see if the guy was celiac, being concerned about kissing his girl on the cheek...

Can someone enlighten me please?

Good point, fotunately I don't seem to be that sensitive, or everytime I feed my dogs, I could get glutinated! :blink: I've worn make-up a couple times since going gluten-free, even my old lipstick now that I think of it... :o and to my recollection, have not reacted.

Mary Kay Cosmetics waterproof mascara is glutenfree.

Yesterday I bought some mascara by Loreal "Panoramic Curl", applied it, & by the end of the day my eyes were very irritated. I got all of it off of me, but my eyes were killing me all night long, they felt like sand was in them. Today, my eyes are two big puffy balls. I look terrible. I am glad I tried this stuff out now. I'm trying to find make up to wear to my wedding in June & I can rule this out! Dont know if it contained any gluten, but it's definitely not for the allergic.

Just thought I'd pass that on...

      Hi,  My 7 year daughter has complained of this in the past, which I thought were part of her glutening symptom, but more recently I have come to figure out it's part of her histamine overload symptom. This one symptom was part of her broader profile, which included irritability, extreme hunger, confusion, post-nasal drip. You might want to look up "histamine intolerance". I wish I had known of this at the time of her diagnosis, life would have been much easier.  I hope you are able to figure out.

      My 5yo was diagnosed with celiac last year by being tested after his sister was diagnosed. We are very strict on the gluten-free diet, but unsure what his reactions are as he was diagnosed without many symptoms other than low ferritin.  He had a school party where his teacher made gluten-free gingerbread men. I almost said no because she made it in her kitchen but I thought it would be ok.  Next day and for a few after his behavior is awful. Hitting, rude, disrespectful. Mainly he kept saying his legs were shaking. Is this a gluten exposure symptom that anyone else gets? Also the bad behavior?

      Not necessarily. The "Gluten Free" label means not more than 20ppm of gluten in the product which is often not enough for super sensitive celiacs. You would need to be looking for "Certified Gluten Free" (GFCO endorsed) which means no more than 10ppm of gluten. Having said that, "Gluten Free" doesn't mean that there will necessarily be more gluten than "Certified Gluten" in any given batch run. It just means there could be.

      I think it is wise to seek a second opinion from a GI doc and to go on a gluten free diet in the meantime. The GI doc may look at all the evidence, including the biopsy report, and conclude you don't need anything else to reach a dx of celiac disease and so, there would be no need for a gluten challenge. But if the GI doc does want to do more testing, you can worry about the gluten challenge at that time. But between now and the time of the appointment, if your symptoms improve on a gluten free diet, that is more evidence. Just keep in mind that if a gluten challenge is called for, the bare minimum challenge length is two weeks of the daily consumption of at least 10g of gluten, which is about the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread. But, I would count on giving it four weeks to be sure.
