So I saw my primary doc. He referred me to a G.I and a gyno because I have probs in both those ares since going gluten-free. Now my gyno ran some hormone tests on me and referred me to another place to get a transvaginal ultrasound to see why I lost my "friend" and am in discomfort/ horrible mood swings, and constipation.

My G.I appt. is before the ultrasound. I am not diagnosed celiac and I really at this point dont want to go back to eating gluten to find out...I'm REALLLY hoping the G.I doc is understanding of me b/c I still have digestive problems, just nothing like before!!.... I get the sensation to go to the bathroom, but it wont come out!!! it feels like there is something blocking it, even when I take a laxative.....and get to the point of D. I feel it right there, but it gets stuck at one point...... SO I'm wondering if all my problems are linked from reproductive problems (maybe something like endometrieosis growth???) or just strictly digestive.

This all started since going gluten-free. I would rather have the problems I have now than what I had before. lol. BUT STILL, I'm just going crazy trying to figure out whats going on.

Anyone else experience something like this??

it isnt helping that my family is still obbessing over the fact that I wont be able to eat all the same foods at holidays and gatherings....I keep reassring them I can make a gluten-free alternative to everything and anything, but they say "yah, its just not the same" GRRRR!!!!! I wonder sometimes if I am dealing with this better than them. They support me in the fact that I found what m problem is, but they arent supportive of the change...so this makes me feel like they arent really supportive AT ALL!!!!! I started crying trying to explain this to my mom, so I'm hoping she mmust realize I'm not joking around, but she didnt react emotionally to me crying, which makes me just want to move far FAR away from family and just start a new life, which is exactly what I have in mind for after college......

rant over n' out!!

WOW my 21 year old cousin thought she had celiac, she was vomitting and having incredible pain, and she was finally diagnosed (during trip to E.R.) endometriosis!

My heart goes out to you. Hope you get it resolved promptly!!! :)

thanks!!! Yeah, my mom is thinking that my reproductive problems have been causing all my digestive problems this whole time....either way, I'm still avoiding gluten given the amazing changes I've seen! the positive definitly outwieghs the negatives.

I am in you EXACT boat. I have not had my "friend" since April. Since April I haven't consumed gluten, except for the few "messups." I am also in your same boat with the C. I went gluten-free and THEN had all the Celiac tests, which, were negative - no surprise. I had an endo and a colonoscopy. The dr did find a form a colitis - proctitis. This means that when I have a "flare up," I won't be able to get anything through me...not even a laxative, until the bottom of me is softened. So when I make mistakes I get severely backed up and have to do enemas. Have you had a colonoscopy?

My biggest frustration, though, is still that it's been since April with no friend! I'm getting married soon and am getting concerned about children....

Agree with them! It's NOT the same! The same was "eat the same food and get the same sick." Now it's better because it's eat different food and, tah-dah! DON'T get sick! The food and the sick are a package deal and you choose Package #2 which is different food and don't get sick. Remind them that you're a big girl now and you get to choose what you eat. B)

OMG!! my mom mentioned colitis! well I'm glad I'm not going insane.

I havent had a colonoscopy or anything. I havent actualy been to the G.I. yet, or ever. I havent had my P since May, and like you I am more concerned about that than the digestive problems. I'v lost my period for being too thin when I was 16, but I wiegh 140 now and am 5'6.....I was 115 when I lost it last time! I'm mostly muscle mass, but I DEFINITLY have healthy fat on me...

thanks so much for responing :)

Please keep me updated as to what you find out! I would say that mine is either from the digestive stuff OR because I'm 25 years old, 5'5" and I went from about 125 lb to 117lb? Do you think? I started dieting in April. I'm so confused!!!! I wish it would just come...

My "friend" went from 29 day cycle to 34 since gluten free. Weird. I dont understand how it messes with the hormones. Im at a loss.

I hope they get to the bottom of your issues soon. No pun intended.

I will definitly post back on hear after my appt.

it sounds like your problem is from wight loss, but probablyl that with a combination of other things.

Do you have any pms symptoms? When I lost my period @ 115 pounds I didnt have any pms symptoms what-so-ever. Right now I've been having constant pms symptoms since april, but no period since may! Most of my body wieght is muscle mass, but I can gain up to 10 ibs in water just in 2-3 days- so frustrating!!! and uncomfortable. BUt nobody ever takes me seriosly because I look thin, like 120, but I am really 140.... I know I have a good balance between fat and muscle, but I dont feel in balance, one day I'll be 135, the next 145!! so i am completely lost....it has to be gluten related....

I think it might be because wheat products have phytoestrogens ( they can mimic estrogen in the female reproductive system) so taking that out may throw the hormones off in some people.....but dont qoute me on that, I've only looked into the phytoestrogen thing a little bit becaue i have tried taking fennel in the past ( before going gluten-free) for my gas problem- (HA, the things I've tried........)

Hmmm.....your starting to make me re-think my early menopause theory. I never realized it before, but I went gluten-free in March, haven't had my friend since April or May <_<

It still could be the menopause thing, but this is something to consider.........I have also lost 23 lbs, but it's weight I needed to lose.

I cant take birth control. Thats what I did last time to start my periods back up. I gained 20 IBS on the pill. retained water so bad it hurt to touch my skin and my muscles would cramp up with charlie horses. I enede up in the ER with a hemoglobin of 8 and then had to go on iron, which made me sick also- blah! My gyno I have now said she wont put me on the pill since there are heart problems in my immediate family and conidering my reaction...

jewi0008 Contributor

My GYNO wants me to go back on the pill for regularity. BUT...I'm getting married in November and we may want to have kids then. So then he said ok then not?! If I don't watch what I eat, I too, will gain like 5 in a day. Mostly bloat. My tummy gets severly distended. That's when my GI will have me do enemas and drink an entire bottle of Mag Citrate to make EVERYTHING get through me. UGH!

I also have many oral problems.

Please can anyone help. I was diagnosed on 23rd December and I am trying my best to get my head around all the things to look out for. I have read that yeast extract is not to be eaten by coeliacs. Why? And is this all yeast extract. Or is this information wrong. Thanks.

Welcome to the celiac.com community, @Seabeemee! The fact that the genetic testing shows you do not have either of the two genes associated with the potential to develop celiac disease (HlA DQ2 and HLA DQ8) pretty much ensures that you do not have celiac disease and the biopsy of the small bowel showing "normal villous architecture" confirms this. But you could have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) which would not damage the villous architecture. You could also have SIBO (Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth) or H. Pylori infection. Both of these conditions would thrive on carbs and you do say you feel better when you don't eat a lot of carbs. And with your resection of the small bowel, that could be causing it's own problems like you describe. When was that surgery done? You have had over 1 foot of your small bowel removed by that surgery in 2022 so that would certainly challenge digestion and nutrient absorption.  Edited

My Doctor messaged me that I have no sign of Celiac disease so until I meet with her next week I don’t know what the labs mean. I am being evaluated by my new GI for Celiac disease because of digestive issues (bloating, distention, fullness in mid section, diarrhea).  I also have been diagnosed with GERD and some associated issues hence the endoscopy. I also was diagnosed with NAFLD after an abdominal CT scan in December - which surprises me because I gave up alcohol 5 years ago, workout 5 days a week, cardio / weights and cook from scratch every night. Anecdotally,  I do feel better when I do not eat a lot of carbs and have been staying away from gluten 95% of the time until my follow up.  History: I had an emergency bowel obstruction operation in August 2021 for a double closed loop obstruction, open surgery removed 40 cm of my small intestine, my appendix, cecal valve and illeocectomy. Beside the fact that this put me in the situation of no longer being able to absorb Vitamin B12  from my diet and having to  inject Vit B 12 2x a month, I also became Iron deficient and am on EOD iron to keep my levels high enough to support my Vitamin B12 injections, as well as daily folic acid. I tested positive for pernicious anemia in 2022 but most recently that same test came back negative. Negative Intrinsic Factor. My results from the biopsies showed 2nd part of Duodenum, small bowel Mildly patch increased intraepithelial lymphocytes with intact villious architecture. Comment: Duodenal biopsies with normal villous architecture and increased intrepithelial lymphocytes (Marsh I lesion) are found in 1-3% of patients undergoing duodenal biopsy, and an association with celiac disease is well established however the specificity remains low. Similar histologic findings may be seen in H pylori gastritis, NSAID and other medication use including olmesartan, bacterial overgrowth, tropical sprue and certain autoimmune disorders. So my GI ordered Labs for Celiac confirmation: Sorry I couldn’t upload a photo or pdf so typed below: TEST NAME                               IN RANGE and/or RESULTS RESULTS:  IMMUNOGLOBULIN A :           110 GLIADIN (DEAMIDATED) AB (IGG, IGA)                            <1.0 GLIADIN (DEAMIDATED) AB (IGA)                                     <1.0 GLIADIN (DEAMIDATED) AB (IGG)                                    <1.0 TISSUE TRANSGLUTAMINASE ANTIBODY, IGG, IGA TISSUE TRANSGLUTAMINASE AB, IGG                                     <1.0 TISSUE TRANSGLUTAMINASE AB, IGA                                     <1.0 INTERPRETATION: <15.0 ANTIBODY NOT DETECTED  > OR = 15.0 ANTIBODY DETECTED RESULTS: HLA TYPING FOR CELIAC DISEASE INTERPRETATION (note The patient does not have the HLA-DQ associated with celiac disease variants) More than 97% of celiac patients carry either HLA-DQ2 (DQA1*05/DQB1*02) or HLA-DQ8 (DQA1*03/DQB1*0302) or both. Genetic counseling as needed. HLA DQ2 : NEGATIVE HLA D08: NEGATIVE HLA VARIANTS DETECTED: HLA DA1* : 01 HLA DA1* : 05 HLA DQB1*: 0301 HLA DQB1*: 0501 RESULTS REVIEWED BY: Benjamin A Hilton, Ph.D., FACMG I appreciate any input, thank you.

Let me hasten to add that if you will be undergoing an endoscopy/biopsy, it is critical that you do not begin efforts to reduce gluten beforehand. Doing so will render the results invalid as it will allow the small bowel lining to heal and, therefore, obscure the damage done by celiac disease which is what the biopsy is looking for.
