i am newly preggers; 4w5d today. i woke up yesterday feeling a bit itchy. as the day progressed it got SO MUCH worse. i haven't had an outbreak like this in so long. i honestly cant remember. i want to see a new allergist now that im pregnant. my allergist claims i am not allergic to wheat but when i eat it, i get itchy. i had one mouthful of spaghetti on sunday night and my chicken was touching it. not sure if thats what caused this horrible outbreak. i also ate cheese for the past two nights.

i keep testing negative for celiac. is there another blood test i can have an allergist do? he did the skin test which said i was allergic to eggs, melon and apples which is ridiculous. my IGG or IGA came back negative.

i need to find out whats causing this itchiness. i seriously cant take it anymore!

thanks!!

Congratulations on the pregnancy! :)

If you feel better being gluten-free (or at least wheat free)... why eat it? You don't need it to have a healthy, balanced diet. Pregnancy does all kinds of crazy things to your hormones and immune system. It can make food intolerances worse or apparent for the first time.

One other thought... if you're itchy but you don't have hives, the itching could be coming from bile salts leaking into your bloodstream as your liver and gallbladder try to cope with the pregnancy (gallbladder problems are common in pregnant women). Do you have an OB/GYN or midwife yet? If not, I would try to set up an early appointment... don't assume the itching is from an allergy.

I got hives right after my baby was born. They went away after a few weeks. It wasn't anything I was allergic to that I can tell. My midwife said it was probably PUPPS given how it started on my belly then went to my breasts and then to my legs. Benadryl helped a little but if you're trying to avoid that, try a topical lotion like calamine or a cortisone cream. However, for me the thing that helped stop the itching best was cold washcloths on the rash.

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
