Post Diagnosis Ttg Iga Test Results - Is This Getting Better?

My son had blood test done in August 2008. The two main tests were highly elevated and indicative of celiac which was followed by a biopsy and celiac diagnosis was confirmed. Since mid-Sepemeber, all gluten has been stopped as far as we know. The original TTG iga blood test was 100+. The follow-up blood test, performed last week was an 86. They said that the test does not show how far over 100 because it does not measure like that. His symptoms of burping have all but disappeared, as well as complaining about his stomach hurting. We have been very diligent about eliminating gluten. I expected the test to be 4 or below, which was what came back on me, his mother, when I was tested. If you have any experience after you were diagnosed, please respond. The other three tests which were run last week, were all within normal ranges. Thanks for any insight you may have.

Hello,

So what you are saying is that within four months his blood work went from 100+ to an 86?

This is hard to explain considering we don't know the exact reading in Aug, if the reading was 190 or something like that then this could be a good thing.

For me I got tested in March and had a 96, I got tested 5 months later and was at 13, with a strict gluten free diet.

I would give it a few more months, continue with the diet and see if it goes down more. My doctor told me that anything under 20 is normal, but of course the lower the better you are obviously doing on the diet. It is so hard to be 100% gluten free, if everyone in the household is not gluten free, or if you eat out at all then you are bound to get traces of gluten.

I think that as long as his IgA continues to get lower and he is feeling good then you are on the right track.

Continue to check the blood work every couple of months and his symptoms and I am sure with time it will be within a normal range again.

Good luck

Krista

It can take longer than 6 months for antibodies to drop to the normal range,  My DGP IgA took a few years as I got stricter and stricter about being gluten free  But having symptoms again could also mean you’re getting some gluten in your diet.

Hi, I just had my 6 month check after being diagnosed Celiac 6 months ago.  All of my panel numbers were normal except: Deamidated Gliadin Abs, IgA (It is 31 with high being over 30)  I have also been having symptoms again. Am I not actually being as careful as I think I am or does it take longer than 6 months for this particular test to come back down?  I can't get ahold of my doctor this week as she is out.     Thank you!

That is very strange, because it looks to me like two very different test results, but for the same test! It's definitely time to contact your doctor for clarity on this.

Scott, thank you SO MUCH for this!! She has been through so much in the last three years as we've tried to track down answers. This language will definitely help me help her to reframe.
