We are traveling there for a week at the end of March. It will be a low-budget trip and we'll be able to bring some foods from home and do most of our cooking in the house we'll be staying in. Any information on restaurants that do well with special diets or health food stores would be appreciated. My son is Gluten-free Casein-free and mostly soy free and very limited on dyes.

Hopefully you can see this before you get to Gulf Shores. I live in Foley just north of there. There are several chains in the area that offer Gluten Free menus. Outback, Lonestar Steak House, Chik-fil-A are a few. As for the local mom and pop style places I'm still finding out myself. I just found out I have celiac last week. Just call before hand and ask the managers is all I can suggest. Most of the places are really friendly anyways.

There is a Health Food Store in Fairhope, AL (about 30 minutes away) on HWY 98. There is also a nice cafe next to it in the strip. The cafe is called the Sunflower Cafe. I like the gluten-free shrimp wraps there.

I'd reccomend checking out the shops in downtown Fairhope for a day anyway. If I find anymore places I'll let you know.

      I put on over 12kg by eating protein with every meal, 3 to 5 times a day. Eggs, Chicken, Tuna, Turkey etc. I stay away from too much red meat as it can be inflammatory. Scott is correct. I've come across a bunch of Coeliac PT's on Tiktok and Instagram. They all say the same thing, the key is getting enough protein and consistency.

      Trader Joe's carries a good variety of affordable gluten-free foods like bagels, hamburger buns, pasta, etc. I like Franz Gluten Free bread, which is available at my local Costco. Food For Life and Little Northern Bakehouse (advertisers here) also make excellent gluten-free breads. Costco also sells gluten-free pizzas, crackers, gravy, etc.
