Enough Gluten For The Blood Test?

I got my doctor to order the blood test for me although he's sure I don't have celiac disease, just lactose intolerant. However I told him I've cut out most wheat from my diet (over 5 years) because I've had so many problems that cleared up when I did. Or that's what I suspect is the culprit. I can't even have about 4 oz. beer once in a while because I bloat up. Could it be a celiac problem? I always thought that's just a "beer belly" but even 4 oz?

I only have about two very small slices of bread a day or one english muffin. Is this enough to try the test? I'm adding back more wheat over the next few days in preparation for the test. I want to do this test once and get a straight answer because the doctor wasn't eager to consider celiac disease at all. celiac disease is so serious that I need to know for sure.

So are 2 thin slices of bread daily enough?

To get the best possible result you need to be consuming gluten for about 3 months. It is best to do a regular full gluten diet. There is still even then a chance of a false negative. If you become very ill during the 3 month challenge that is diagnostic in itself.

      Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute.
