Reese's Whipps

I just called about Reese's Whipps candy bars. The rep I spoke with said their natural flavoring may contain malt. He said they receive it from an outside supplier who is required by law to tell them if it is derived from wheat, but that since gluten can come from barley or rye as well, and they are not required to tell them about those, Hershey's cannot confirm that the Whips are gluten free. He was very polite and sounded very knowledgable. I add that last part only because sometimes the manufacturer reps seem to be reading a script and others (like him) seem to actually "get it."

I also called about the Reese's Crispy Crunchy and he said at this time those are gluten free but to check back as their suppliers and formulas may change.

Hershey will NEVER disclose the source of their "Natural Flavor". It appears that it's more important to them to protect their suppliers, than the millions of consumer who purchase their products.

I will not buy Hershey.

(my apology to CeliacMom2008, for my attitude, but this has been an ongoing issue with Hershey. They are very unsupportive in their disclosure policies)

Thank you for posting this information.

I won't buy Hershey's either.

I do buy Mars/Dove, Tootsie, Nestle/Wonka and many other companies that will disclose gluten in their ingredients. :)

I put on over 12kg by eating protein with every meal, 3 to 5 times a day. Eggs, Chicken, Tuna, Turkey etc. I stay away from too much red meat as it can be inflammatory. Scott is correct. I've come across a bunch of Coeliac PT's on Tiktok and Instagram. They all say the same thing, the key is getting enough protein and consistency.

It's great to hear that eliminating gluten has helped alleviate symptoms like eye burning, which is a significant and positive change. The first and most important step is to ensure you're consuming enough protein throughout the day to support muscle repair and growth, which can be challenging with a busy schedule. Since you're already physically active at work, adding focused strength training just 2-3 times per week can make a major difference. Bodyweight exercises like squats, push-ups (modified if needed), and lunges, or using resistance bands at home, are excellent, efficient places to start. Remember, consistency with these short sessions and prioritizing post-workout recovery, including good sleep and hydration, are just as crucial as the workouts themselves. It's a smart, gradual process at any age.

Trader Joe's carries a good variety of affordable gluten-free foods like bagels, hamburger buns, pasta, etc. I like Franz Gluten Free bread, which is available at my local Costco. Food For Life and Little Northern Bakehouse (advertisers here) also make excellent gluten-free breads. Costco also sells gluten-free pizzas, crackers, gravy, etc.
