Brown Rice & White Rice Pastas

Been gluten free for almost 2 years now.

Ok I don't know what to do whenever I eat rice pastas they turn to bricks in my system. I am not kidding.

I eat 6 bil organisms of probiotis a day.. I thought the brown rice was a whole grain pasta? (I eat Tinkyada)

Last night I cooked it with a sauce I made with coconut milk, broth and butternut squash.

Anyone else have this problem?

Hm, I've wondered about rice myself. I don't know, I haven't narrowed it down enough, but something's still bothering me. Hope you can get it figured out.

Thank you Sweetie!! I hope you get it figured out too!

I noticed for about the first 6 months after I went gluten free I was feeling better and then since then I have been feeling "off" again.

Be well!:)

I have a mild reaction to rice, and if the reaction you are having is mild you probably want to keep it that way so you can still eat it at times

My doctor has me on a rotation diet so I only eat rice once every four days and that keeps it under control, also another thing that helps is soaking or sprouting your rice to get rid of the anti nutrients

(google sprouting grains)

good luck

That is a great idea Janessa, I didn't even think to sprout it! And I will omit it for a few months and try it on rotation.

:)

I had problems with Tinkyada, but not with Mrs. Leepers.

This sounds exactly like me!! Had to cut out dairy, and then I was better for awhile...then started feeling it again. It's so frustrating!

Bout time you showed up <G>

I've had a hard time with brown rice in that past year too. never did before but my body is going though a lot of changes again that I've not figured out.I was supposed to be in INdia for 2 months but last week caught Pneumonia then broke a rib coughing and tory the muscles on the left side of my chest. -- yeah been strange -- although diet as been fine since going gluten-free, i started having to take the diabetes pills which I'm not happy about -- cut out most of the remaining carbs especially rice and if I do it some -- well like you said its like a brick in my gut. Looks like dairy is going the way of the dodo too.

Pretty soon I'll be limited to that which I work and promote -- tropical fruit.

take a look at the new posters on my site too

I also see you have a problem with dairy, I do too and I switched to eating goat dairy and raw dairy products with no problems. I rotate these too but it helps so much to have dairy back in my diet.

Of course if you have very strong reactions I don't recommend it.

KEN!!!! B) HOW are you? I am back... now I need to come up with new rice-less recipes HAHA

;)

I don't eat dairy it does the same thing rice does HAHA

stop the madness!

be back tomorrow gotta go housesit!

kenlove Rising Star

Glad your back!

I'll be ok if I dont cough, laugh, sneeze, talk above a wisper and so on.

I never experienced the type of pain from a broken rib before-- --

Instead of rice, I'll start testing Awa, Hie and Kibi which are 3 types of millets from Japan.

Here we just tend to lump them all together as millet but they really have it down. IN ancient times in Japan the samurai were paid in koku (bushel) of rice. Often the farmers did not have enough for themselves so they ate the different millets. Just got some here so I hope to play them soon.

Take care

I am so sorry about your Diabetes, Ken. My Sister was just diagnosed literally last week.

Tropical fruit ALWAYS makes me feel better!!!:)

Did you have to take a retarded amout of Antibiotics when you had the Pneumonia?

How did you recover after all that?

:)

glad to be back

(or did I say that already...:)

I was feeling really "off" for about 3 months- healing from Adrenal Exhaustion and was just incredibly "spaced out" I could barely drive to the store I was feeling so off. And I wasn't feeling creative at all so I didn't even want to think about writing recipes or anything I love doing. But brain is 100% and feeling better since I quit eating rice altogether a few days ago.

Do you think I could pick up those millets @ asian grocery? :)

I sure know that off feeling-- its been so strange since all of this started - with leg pains so they gave me a test for deep vin thrombosis and vericose veins -- which run in the family. no problem so I started wearing socks at night which solved the leg pain issue.

after that the flu- which turned to the pneumonia which they didnt catch at all and as you said ultra amounts of antibiotics which I have to take daily if i get well enough to go to India. -- im wondering if I"m allergic to the diabetes meds or something else. Or another allergy is starting. dock said to lay off yeast.. in any case I cant leave for work in india until I can cough or sneeze without doubling over in pain.

the last 2 days I had no energy and keep taking my pulse since it keeps feeling like my heart was going bonkers.

walk down stairs but feel like I ran a marathon. that snot it -- always like I want to claw my skin off ( didnt rent that movie while laid up)

so I dont know what to do other than jin shin jyutsu which is really good. Never tried it until I busted the rib --

Sure glad your back and feeling better

if you want to email your address I can send something in regular mail. Not sure whats left but should have some of the millets.

I know there are some noodles here with one of the millets.

take care

You know, Ken, I have noticed over the last year&1/2 I have noticed yeast sensitivities(when I eat bread esp) I get all bloated for like 24 hours... I have unofficially given up bread since 4/20 when I quit rice & rice-based flours bread etc

this is even when I am eating a responsible amount of probiotics etc...

hope you get it all squared away!!! :)

Thanks -- seems to be a constant battle these days.

I did try one of the millet's last night. kibi in Japanese. No problem some far. I think some of my bloating might be from the yeast too. Really should stop it.

have farmers market soup base in the crock pot now. Bought 1 type of veggie from each of the vendors, cut it up and threw in the spices from out back -- really good soup. too bad its like 95 here today!

Anyway I met it about sending some of the awa, kibi or hiya if you want to try it. some of it you can see in the pictures on my site.

I found some regular Organic Milet @ my my health food store! Bought 2 pounds :) HA

I am going to experiment this week! Come up with a few recipes :) I am excited

When I first began the probiotics I was taking like 30 bil organisms a day for about 6 months until I started to get my balance back- then I lowered it to 24 (bil) for another 6, and now I take 6 bil a day.

So how's that farmer's market soup base turn out?

it was 33 when I woke up yesterday morning! HAHAHA

they are promising 60 by Saturday...

night!

kenlove Rising Star

I'm cold just thinking about those temps... been perfect here for awhile. Glad you could find the millet. See if you can find the botanic name for the type you bought. the 3 types in japan all have different botanic names yet all translate to millet.

I'll be looking forward to the recipes too. In the veggie broth I stuck some beets. After 4 hours I took them out and ate them. Forgot how much I liked beets!

Dont know if I should do probiotics or not now. I need to get in balance but its more overall and not just a gastro issue.

It is getting better and I need to just give it time, more sleep and not over do it and rush off to quickly.

Was supposed to be in India this week so that will just have to wait.

Take care

Wound up making 3 crock pot's of soup -- vegetable broth, classic french onion and something akin to a Le Escoffier consume

Had two bowls of onion, 1 consume and froze the rest to use when needed.

Cristiana, that sounds like a great approach and I will be looking forward to the results. I am in the same boat as you. I don't experience overt symptoms with minor, cross contamination level exposures so I sometimes will indulge in those "processed on equipment that also processes wheat . . ." or items that don't specifically claim to be gluten free but do not list gluten containing grains in their ingredient list. But I always wonder if I am still experiencing sub acute inflammatory reactions. I haven't had any celiac antibody blood work done since my diagnosis almost 25 years ago so I don't really have any data to go by.

I've been reflecting on this further. The lowest TTG I've ever managed was 4.5 (normal lab reading under 10).  Since then it has gone up to 10.   I am not happy with that.  I can only explain this by the fact that I am eating out more these days and that's where I'm being 'glutened', but such small amounts that I only occasionally react. I know some of it is also to do with eating products labelled 'may contain gluten' by mistake - which in the UK means it probably does! It stands to reason that as I am a coeliac any trace of gluten will cause a response in the gut.  My villi are healed and look healthy, but those lymphocytes are present because of the occasional trace amounts of gluten sneaking into my diet.   I am going to try not to eat out now until my next blood test in the autumn and read labels properly to avoid the may contain gluten products, and will then report back to see if it has helped!

Hi, I posted before about my son's legs shaking after gluten. I did end up starting him on vit b and happily he actually started sleeping better and longer.  Back to my 4 year old. She had gone back to meltdowns, early wakes, and exhaustion. We tested everything again and her ferritin was lowish again (16) and vit d was low. After a couple weeks on supplements she is cheerful, sleeping better and looks better. The red rimmed eyes and dark circles are much better.   AND her Ttg was a 3!!!!!! So, we are crushing the gluten-free diet which is great. But WHY are her iron and vit d low if she's not getting any gluten????  She's on 30mg of iron per day and also a multivitamin and vit d supplement (per her dr). That helped her feel better quickly. But will she need supplements her whole life?? Or is there some other reason she's not absorbing iron? We eat very healthy with minimal processed food. Beef maybe 1x per week but plenty of other protein including eggs daily.  She also says her tummy hurts every single morning. That was before the iron (do not likely a side effect). Is that common with celiac?

Celiac disease is the most likely cause, but here are articles about the other possible causes:
