3 Weeks Now And Doing Much Better

So all seems to be going well. Had my Thyroid med increased again, started weekly B12 shots and the diet I am getting used to.

My fatigue has dropped 50%....thank heavens.

GI: I will have new blood work every 3 months and yearly scopings. Start taking the medication for Barretts which I did not even know I had....no real bad symptoms. Plus I need an ultra sound of my gallbladder to check for stones. He did liver blood work just to make sure all is OK. I have had pain under my rib rib for about 10 years.

Endo: Getting a bone scan as a baseline for monitoring.

PCP: He is doing my B12 monitoring and I am doing the shots from home.

I think I have all my areas covered unless you all know of something else I should be watching for!

Oh one really good thing, my daughter whom also has Hashimotos, B12 and D deficencies.....tested for Celiac and it came back Negative! I was so happy about this. She is still going to the GI because she does need a new one for monitoring because of adhesions from small bowel obstruction surgeries.

I have lost 4 pounds....only about 20 more to go! Weird I have lost more inches then weight, must be the bloating.

Well I thought I would post a positive....eating so much more fresh fruits and veggies, leaner meats. It really is not a bad diet. My GI was a little concerned with just how at ease I am...I really do not need a Nutritionist but he is insisting I at least speak with one once.

So glad to hear that you are doing well on the diet. One word of caution though about your DD, there are false negatives on testing so she may want to give the diet a good try even though the tests were negative. Also did your GI tell you why they want to do yearly endo? Usually after we heal they are not needed. It may be because of the Barretts rather than the celiac but you may want to check.

Sounds good AmyJoe. You are right, the diet is not bad, I think it is probably healthier than most people eat in fact. I wanted to just mention goitrogenic foods as something to be aware of. I don't know how big an effect they would have, but supposedly they can cause some thyroid suppression. I think soy is one of the bad ones for that. Just look up goitrogen on Wiki, and they have a list of the foods. I also think it makes sense for DD to try the diet, since false negatives are a possibility.

Good going! As the thyroid meds are increased you may lose more of the tiredness. They need increased slowly so that your body does not go into shock. It took me about three increases to get to where I needed to be. After going Gluten free and losing weight they needed lowered. I was glad for that! For me I can tell when they are to high because my mind starts yapping all night when I am asleep. I feel like I am yelling at kids at a slumber party in my head to go to sleep.

I lost about 5 inches from the bloating also. It is still so nice to see my new tummy! I no longer sport the pregnant look and hard round tummy! Isn't that a nice feeling?

My 21 year old daughter has had odd illness and a round belly for years so she tried going gluten free and felt so much better that she sticks to it. She has not been tested medically. But Loss of brain fog is enough proof for her.

My doctor does not believe that I am Gluten free. For me the switch was not hard because I felt so bad on gluten and was tired of feeling like I was dieing. The Dietitian was helpful only in that I got to look at the plastic food and get a real view of what a serving really was. She was a little stumped on what I should replace bread with though. I would love to find someone that could really help me figure out what to eat. With dieting and allergies and all the fads I have lived though my ideas of eating are pretty messed up.

Congrats on making such big and bold moves toward better health and taking care of you!

I have had 3 B12 shots now and the increase in Thyroid meds....Finally after more then 6 months of awful bone and muscle pain.....it is gone! Plus my sex drive is back, been in hiding for a very long time! Oh and the ant-acid med....No more side pain under my rib. This is awesome.

My grill and I have really been getting to know eachother...Thankfully my family is up to trying new things. I have been able to re-create all the sauces and rubs to be gluten-free and really they are better tasting.

This is just amazing to me. Years of feeling like total crap and being told oh it's just depression or having such a hectic life with 3 kids....blah blah blah for 26 years! I wished I could have a rewind button and re-raise my kids....not that I did a bad job just that I feel so much better now. I will enjoy Grandkids when they come along.

There has to be litature or medical papers out there about the Brian Stem and Celiac. For I strongly believe there is a connection. It just feels so relaxed and calm. I don't startel or get really emotionally upset about anything....I will have to research this more.

      @Scatterbrain, Thiamine Vitamin B1 and amino acid Taurine work together.  Our bodies can make Taurine from meats consumed.  Our bodies cannot make Thiamine and must consume thiamine from food.  Meat is the best source of B vitamins like Thiamine.   Vegetarians may not make sufficient taurine since they don't eat meat sources of taurine.  Seaweed is the best vegetarian source of taurine. Vegetarians may not consume sufficient Thiamine since few veggies are good sources.  Whole grains, legumes, and nuts and seeds contain thiamine.  Many of these sources can be hard to digest and absorb for people with Celiac disease.   You may find taking the forms of thiamine called Benfotiamine or TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) and a B Complex will give the benefits you're looking for better than taurine alone.

      @Jmartes71, I went to Doterra's site and had a look around.  The Doterra TerraZyme supplement really jumped out at me.  Since we, as Celiacs, often have digestive problems, I looked at the ingredients.  The majority of the enzymes in this supplement are made using black mold, Aspergillus!  Other enzymes are made by yeast Saccharomyces!  Considering the fact that Celiac often have permeable intestines (leaky gut syndrome), I would be very hesitant to take a product like this.  Although there may not be live black mold or yeast in the product, the enzymes may still cause an immune system response which would definitely cause inflammation throughout the body.   Skin, eyes, and intestines are all made from the same basic type of cells.  Your skin on the outside and eyes can reflect how irritated the intestines are on the inside.  Our skin, eyes, and intestines all need the same vitamins and nutrients to be healthy:  Vitamin A, Niacin B3 and Tryptophan, Riboflavin B2, Biotin B7, Vitamin C, and Omega Threes.  Remember that the eight B vitamins work together.  Just taking high doses of just one, vitamin like B12, can cause a deficiency in the others.  Taking high doses of B12 can mask a Folate B9 deficiency.  If you take B12, please take a B Complex, too.  Thiamine B1 can be taken in high doses safely without toxicity.  Thiamine is needed by itself to produce energy so every cell in the body can function, but Thiamine also works with the other B vitamins to make life sustaining enzymes and digestive enzymes.  Deficiencies in either Niacin, Vitamin C, or Thiamine can cause digestive problems resulting in Pellagra, Scurvy, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi.   If you change your diet, you will change your intestinal microbiome.  Following the Autoimmune Protocol Diet, a Paleo diet, will starve out SIBO bacteria.  Thiamine keeps bacteria in check so they don't get out of control as in SIBO.  Thiamine also keeps MOLDS and Yeasts from overgrowth.   Menopause symptoms and menstrual irregularities are symptomatic of low Vitamin D.   Doctors are not as knowledgeable about malnutrition as we need them to be.  A nutritionist or dietician would be more helpful.   Take control of your diet and nutrition.  Quit looking for a pill that's going to make you feel better overnight.  The Celiac journey is a marathon, not a sprint.   "Let food be your medicine, and let medicine be your food."

      The Lindt (Lindor) dairy-free oat milk truffles are definitely gluten-free, and (last time I checked) so are the white chocolate truffles and the mint chocolate truffles.

      I've used magnesium taurinate and magnesium taurate vitamins.  Didn't notice much of a difference when I used them.

      Anyone experimented with Taurine supplementation either via electrolyte powders or otherwise? Thanks
