Help With Testing While On gluten-free Diet?

What tests can I have to show a possibility of Celiac, if I have already been gluten free for a year? (Excluding the gluten challenge!)

I know I can't get an official result unless I am eating gluten, but I would I like more of an official answer instead of "self-diagnosis." My family doesn't take my "self-diagnosis" too seriously. So, I kind of want more proof...and whether or not I need to be more strict about CC.

Example:

Me: I can't eat this barbecued chicken, because this barbecue sauce contains wheat.

Dad: Just wipe it off your chicken!

Ugh

Thanks for any help!

Unless you are eating gluten, and go to your doctor for the blood tests and/or biopsy, you cannot be accurately diagnosed with Celiac at this time.

It does not discount that you have an issue with gluten (whether Celiac or not), however.

BTW - Which BBQ sauce do you think has wheat?

I can't remember the name of the barbecue sauce, but I know it was a local brand--it wasn't a mainstream brand. The main brands (like Kraft, etc.) seem to have only a few questionable ingredients, like caramel coloring and such.

Thanks!

Here is some info that may make reading labels easier, esp on brands like Kraft:

A list of companies that has a clear gluten policy. If you don't see "wheat, rye, barley, barley malt, oats" on the labels, its not there, or hidden in "flavors, starches, etc." Open Original Shared Link and Open Original Shared Link This makes shopping MUCH easier.

FDA foods are required to list wheat - it cannot be hidden.

After a year gluten free, you won't find much. Even Enterolab says that about a year is how long they have a decent chance of detecting gluten intolerance.

I would encourage you to become more self-confident in the self-testing you did. Really *own* that knowledge. It doesn't matter if your family believes you or not, they just have respect your decisions. (They don't have to agree with your decisions, just respect that you get to make them. So when they say "just wipe it off", say "no, that will make me sick." and that's all there is to it. repeat that line five times if you have to.)

Thank you so much for all your advice! :)

"Conclusions: The urinary iodine level was significantly lower in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis, and iodine replacement may be important in preventing osteoporosis"  Body iodine status in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis Low iodine can cause thyroid problems, but Iodine deficiency will not show up in thyroid tests.  Iodine is important for healing, its job is to kill off defective and aging cells (Apoptosis). Skin, brain fog, nails, muscle tone all inproved when I started taking 600 mcg (RDA 150 - 1000 mcg) of Liquid Iodine drops. Some with dermatitis herpetiformis, Iodine exacerbates the rash.  I started at 1 drop (50 mcg) and worked up to 12 drops, but I don't have dermatitis herpetiformis.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and I found myself giggling with happiness as I read how your body reached such spring! And I hope that your current journey is also successful!! Definitely starting the food diary! So many amazing advices. And it’s very scary. It really hits all our soft spots as well as our confidence system. Most doctors I went thought I was underage despite being in my late 20s. Right now I look like am I twelve, but is also this body that’s taking so much, so I might as well love it too! Going to make the necessary changes and stay in this path. Thank you again! 🫶

Thank you so much for the information and kind message! Reading this transformed how I’ve been viewing my efforts and progress. Guess there’s still a lot to celebrate and also heal 😌  Yes, I’ve been taking it! Just recently started taking a multivitamin supplement and separated vitamin D! I also took chewable Iron polymaltose for ferritin deficiency 2 months ago but was unable to absorb any of it.  Thank you again! Hearing such gentle words from the community makes my body and heart more patient and excited for the future.
