Should I Buy New Brushes?

I am in the process of switching to gluten free makeup. I won't use any of it until it is all gluten free. I am afraid to use the current makeup brushes that I have with the new gluten free makeup. Is washing your current brushes good enough or should I just buy a new brush set to be on the safe side?

I just switched to a gluten free shampoo and am wondering if I should buy a new hairbrush? (I know, a little OCD, but it's better than getting glutened, right?)

If you feel that you are a little OCD about things, then it might make you feel better if you replaced all of these items. It really isn't necessary, though. It's all up to your comfort level. The only way a reaction is possible is if you are replacing these items due to a topical

wheat allergy and then I would probably replace them. You'd have to put the brushes in your mouth to spark a Celiac reaction and I doubt you'll ever do that! :P

Thanks! Yeah, my face has been breaking out, so I think I will go with the new brushes in that case and see if that helps :)

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
