This may be an obscure brand but my roommate bought Ducktrap Smoked Salmon by Kendall Brooks and I'm wondering if it is gluten free. Nothing on their website mentions anything about gluten. I'm worried about the spices and the smoke flavoring. Has anyone tried this brand of salmon, or know if it is gluten free? Additionally, what's the general consensus about smoke flavoring in any kind of store bought, packaged salmon? Thank you for any information.

I can't speak to the specific brand, but it sounds to me like it is probably safe.

Spices are almost always gluten-free. Do not confuse spices with seasoning, which can be almost anything. No spice that I know of is a source of gluten, and if anything is added to the spices then it would have to be labeled as "seasoning" instead of "spices."

Products labeled as "smoked" should be just that: smoked. Smoke is from wood sources and is gluten-free. "Smoke flavor" could be from sources that have gluten, but such a product would be labeled as smoke flavored, not smoked.

And this product would HAVE to list wheat. Barley and rye are VERY unlikely in something like this.

I enjoy smoked salmon and have never found one with gluten.

      I put on over 12kg by eating protein with every meal, 3 to 5 times a day. Eggs, Chicken, Tuna, Turkey etc. I stay away from too much red meat as it can be inflammatory. Scott is correct. I've come across a bunch of Coeliac PT's on Tiktok and Instagram. They all say the same thing, the key is getting enough protein and consistency.

      Trader Joe's carries a good variety of affordable gluten-free foods like bagels, hamburger buns, pasta, etc. I like Franz Gluten Free bread, which is available at my local Costco. Food For Life and Little Northern Bakehouse (advertisers here) also make excellent gluten-free breads. Costco also sells gluten-free pizzas, crackers, gravy, etc.
