Their ice cream is gluten-free according to their website, except for one kind. And of course you can't eat the cookie mix ins, etc.

What I want to know is how many of you that have Coldstone eat their ice cream and if you've ever had cross contamination problems?

I'd love to get back to eating it again!

I have had it twice while traveling ~ there isn't one near me. I didn't have a reaction, but I guess crosscontamination is always an issue if they just mixed up a flavor with cookies, etc. But eating anything out anywhere is always a risk!! Have to make that choice for yourself. Good ice cream though!!! :D

I knew Cold Stone was gluten-free but will not eat there since they use the same scoop for all the flavors and there is a very good possibility that the flavors get mixed in with one another. I try and stick to the ice cream places that come out of a machine (soft serve), like TCBY. That way there is very little chance of cross contamination. You can always buy the pre-packaged pints of ice cream that cold stone sells though. I think that is your safest bet!

Is all of TCBY yogurt gluten-free?

KaitiUSA Enthusiast

Alot of it is...alot of their ice cream is too. If you email them they will send you a list. If you don't want to do that email me and I can email you their gluten free products. :D

Most of their soft serve is gluten-free except for the obvious ones like Chocolate Malt. I have to admit that I eat at TCBY at least once/twice a week. They know me there since I always ask them to clean off the shiver machine and I get the reeses peanut butter cups from the original container in the back (since the toppings have a huge chance of cross contamination).

I love Coldstone Creamery, the one by me has been extremely accommodating. They are getting to know us when we walk in the door now! They will scrub down an area of the mixing stone and get a clean scoop, they are also more than willing to let me bring in Cerrone Cones and put my scoops in that.

What does it mean to ask them to clean off the shiver machine? I just ate there and so far so good. I had choc/vanilla swirl yogurt. Woulld it need to be cleaned b/c it can touch a cone? Oh well I didn't know to ask that...let me know if that is why...

I had the plain vanilla ice cream with Snickers mixed in awhile back, and it made me sicker than I've been in a year. Regardless of what their menu says, I'm not going back.

I've had the PB ice cream with reese's pb cups mixed in. They used a clean scoop and a clean bowl to mix it. I was just fine, but then again, I'm not always the most reliable with my reactions (or lack of). They were very accomodating though. This was a Coldstone in Ocean City, MD.

I tend to stay away from any hand-scooped ice cream chains though, kinda risky in my opinion. I used to work for an ice cream shop and I know what goes on... and the high risk for cross-contamination.

I eat at Cold Stone all the time. I ask them to use a new scoop and get the ice cream from a fresh batch in the back freezer. I watch them put it directly in the cup, then they just put the mix-ins on top for me instead of mixing it up on the marble. I have never had a problem doing it this way and they are always happy to help (at least at the ones here in Atlanta).

Went to Coldstones for the first time this weekend....Can anybody say "BANANA ICE CREAM WITH PEANUT BUTTER AND M&M'S"!!!! :D

Thought I was in heaven. Looking forward to our Sunday drives this summer!!

I actually don't like Coldstone Creamery. I find there stuff has a freezeburnt taste to it. But regardless I wouldn't eat it. Since they mix everything up right there on the slab I feel there would be way to much risk of cross contamination. I'll stick with Haagen Dazs :)

I don't know about Cold Stone, but have any of you had the soft serve IceDream from Chic fil A??? It is soooooooo good and gluten-free. Their fries are too. We haven't had any problem. My husband is a Youth pastor, though, and a lot of the kids work there, so we know who we can trust.

TCBY IS NOT gluten-free...they gave me the most half A@@ answer..

Thank you for taking the time to e-mail our Customer Service Department.

The majority of our frozen yogurt products do not contain gluten. As a rule of thumb, you will want to avoid flavors that obviously contain wheat, rye, oats, or barley (e.g., Cheesecake, Cookies 'n' Cream, Chocolate Malt, etc.). None of our sorbet flavors contain gluten. Some of our new Hand Scooped Frozen Yogurt flavors may contain gluten; individuals wishing to avoid gluten may want to check the ingredients in each of these flavors before consuming them.

I have attached a list of the ingredients in our various products, should you wish to have it for your reference. I hope you find it helpful.

If you have any further comments or questions about TCBY, please feel free to contact us again either by phone at (800) 348-6311 or through our Web site at www.tcby.com.

So I asked about their natural and artifiical flavorings, for example look at this flavor..

Amaretto – Low Carb Lover's Frozen Yogurt (Revised Formula) Ingredients: Nonfat milk, cream, polydextrose, erythritol, sorbitol, nonfat yogurt with live active cultures, whey protein concentrate, stabilizer (cellulose gel, mono and diglycerides, guar gum, cellulose gum, sodium phosphate, carrageenan), natural and artificial flavors, calcium carbonate, sucralose, annatto, acesulfame potassium, vitamin A palmitate, vitamin E.

Here is what they wrote back...,

According to our Research and Development Department, the natural and artificial flavors in our product could possibly come from wheat, oats, barley, or rye. However, the gluten wouldn't be at a high enough level to cause a reaction.

I have attached a list of the ingredients used in several of our toppings that you should find helpfu.

As soon as I read a previous thread on Cold stone bieng gluten-free I loaded up the family and off we went! White chocolate Ice cream with peanut butter and PB cups, YUM!!!! Of course i got some young guy waiting on me who I expected to have no clue but he offered and got a clean bowel, scoop and ingredients from the back. was a great experience. This was the one in Salisbury, MD

skinnyminny Enthusiast

Thats too bad about TCBY I eat there every once in a while with no noticable trouble, I get the white chocolate moose most times, and thought it was safe, I guess I will mark that off the list of safe treats :(

I eat at a Boston Cold Stone creamery every couple weeks. I love the white chocolate and coffee mixed together. This particular store has a complete allergen list for all flavors and toppings. Almost all their ice cream is gluten free except of course the ones with cookies, cake etc. I just skip the mixing table and have them put the ice cream directly in the cup. The first time they got me a clean scoop, but since then I haven't and have been fine. They do rinse it in water, but I guess I will ask for a new scoop next time. Forgot about that. Anyway, I think it is the best ice cream around!! (This one is the Brighton location by the way).

I just went to Coldstone because of the idea I got from this thread. I got there and told the young kid that I had a gluten allergy. He got the manager to come over. I told her I needed her to use new fresh scoops and a new tub of icecream. Her response: NO PROBLEM, anything we can do to help you enjoy your experience with us! Wow, I'm extremely impressed with the Lima, ohio Coldstone!

I had a very rough month after diagnosis. No exaggeration, lost so much inflammatory weight, I looked like a bag of bones, underneath i had been literally starving to death. I did start feeling noticeably better after a month of very strict control of my kitchen and home. What are you eating for breakfast and lunch? I ignored my doc and ate oats, yes they were gluten free, but some brands are at the higher end of gluten free. Lots of celics can eat Bob's Red Mill gluten-free oats, but not me. I can now eat them, but they have to be grown and processed according to the "purity protocol" methods. I mail order them, Montana Gluten-Free brand. A food and symptoms and activities log can be helpful in tracking down issues. You might be totally aware, but I have to mention about the risk of airborne gluten. As the doc that diagnosed me warned . . Remember eyes, ears, nose, and mouth all lead to your stomach and intestines.  Are you getting any cross contamination? Airborne gluten? Any pets eating gluten (they eat it, lick themselves, you pet them...)? Any house remodeling? We live in an older home, always fixing something. I've gotten glutened from the dust from cutting into plaster walls, possibly also plywood (glues). The suggestions by many here on vitamin supplements also really helped me. I had some lingering allergies and asthma, which are now 99% gone. I was taking Albuterol inhaler every hour just to breathe, but thiamine in form of benfotiamine kicked that down to 1-2 times a day within a few days of starting it. Also, since cutting out inflammatory seed oils (canola, sunflower, grapeseed, etc) and cooking with real olive oil, avocado oil, ghee, and coconut oil, I have noticed even greater improvement overall and haven't used the inhaler in months! It takes time to weed out everything in your life that contains gluten, and it takes awhile to heal and rebuild your health. At first it's mentally exhausting, overwhelming, even obsessive, but it gets better and second nature.

Hi,  I care for my seven year old daughter with Celiac. After watching her for months, I have figured out that she has problem with two kinds of fats- animal fat and cooking oils. It basically makes her intestine sore enough that she feels spasms when she is upset. It only happens on days when she has eaten more fat than her usual every day diet. (Her usual diet has chia seeds, flaxseeds, and avocado/ pumpkin seeds for fat and an occasional chicken breast.) I stopped using cooking oils last year, and when I reintroduced eggs and dairy, both of which I had held off for a few months thinking it was an issue of the protein like some Celiac patients habe mentioned to be the case, she has reacted in the same fashion as she does with excess fats. So now I wonder if her reaction to dairy and eggs is not really because of protein but fat.   I don't really have a question, just wondering if anyone finds this familiar and if it gets better with time.  Thank you.

Hello, My name is Chanda and you are not the only one that gose through the same things. I have found that what's easiest for me is finding a few meals each week that last. I have such severe reactions to gluten that it shuts my entire body down. I struggle everyday with i can't eat enough it feels like, when I eat more I lose more weight. Make sure that you look at medication, vitamins and shampoo and conditioner also. They have different things that are less expensive at Walmart.

Thank you so much! I saw some tips around the forum to make a food diary and now that I know that the community also struggles with corn, egg and soy, the puzzle pieces came together! Just yesterday I tried eating eggs and yes, he’s guilty and charged. Those there are my 3 combo nausea troublemakers. I’m going to adjust my diet ☺️ Also thank you for the information about MCAS! I’m from South America and little it’s talked about it in here. It’s honestly such a game changer now for treatment and recovery. I know I’m free from SIBO and Candida since I’ve been tested for it, but I’m still going to make a endoscopy to test for H. Pylori and Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). Thank you again!! Have a blessed weekend 🤍

Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.
