Getting Tested For Other Sensitivities

Is there a way to get tested for other sensitivities/in tolerances besides gluten besides elimination? Are there tests my doctor can do? I seem to be sensitive to pumpkin  (it gives me heartburn) . I just feel crappy and am unsure if it is related to food or other stress in my life. I have been doing well up until recently. I just feel like a mess now. :( I'm so stressed out. I just want to be able to enjoy food again.

There may be more ways than what we've done but this is our experience. I found an allergist/immunologist who does food testing with the skin prick method. They have a list of about 100 foods. Pumpkin is on the list! Per Dr.'s orders, I eliminated all the foods that showed a reaction and quite to my suprize I felt almost nothing after eating the meals that were absent of the offenders. My tummy was so calm it felt so strange! So, it sounds like you may be right and you may benefit from such testing. We are lucky that our allergist is up to date on gluten as well. Our previous allergist didn't believe in dietary changes unless a life threatening allergy presented.

Thank you for the information. I will look into it in the new year when my school health clinic can refer me. Do these other intolerances keep my small intestine from healing from the celiac damage?

That's a good question and that may be the case for some, but I'm afraid I don't have the answer. You might look up leaky gut syndrome. It seems that's what my problem is. Basically the opposite of your question if I understand correctly. The leaky gut causes these intolerances.

I had a food and chemical sensitivity blood test done about 18 months ago. I reacted to quite a few things, including severe reactions to chlorine, flouride, apples, beets, beet sugar and safflower oil. At that time, I did not react to oats, wheat, rye or barley. The test results said they are 80% accurate. I went on an elimination/rotation diet and didn't see much improvement. Believe me, I stuck to it 100%.

Six months ago I had a saliva test for milk, soy, egg and gliadin. All were positive. I am very careful about avoiding all of these although I have tried dairy a couple. The most recent time it didn't seem to bother me too much.

I just had an expanded food and chemical sensitivity blood test done and am waiting for the results. I am hoping that I will have more positive results from following the elimination/rotation diet this time around since I will be avoiding gluten. Eliminating gluten, dairy, eggs and soy has helped some but I don't think it is the complete answer for me.

I am wondering what there will be left for me to eat??????????? I am guessing that grapefruit, oranges, bananas, grapes, tomatoes and most nuts will be added to the list of foods to avoid. I'm sure there will be lots of surprises.

I don't know how much to trust the 80% accuracy but it gives me another place to look. I'll post when I get my results.

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
