My Introduction

Sunny Side

Recommended Posts

Sunny Side Newbie

I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Theresa and I have been a member for quite a while. Although I haven't been active, I have been lurking. I was diagnosed with Celiac disease by biopsy and have been gluten free since May 2009. It has been challenging at times since I am the only one in the house on a gluten free diet. I have a husband and three children. I cook some meals completely gluten free and sometimes I cook separate meals for myself. I have my own pots and pans and plates and utensils, etc. I'm careful about crumbs and cross contamination, and I'm constantly washing my hands. Sometimes I wonder if gluten may still be sneaking it's way in to me some how since I am handling it so much. I feel well, it's just not easy being the only person in the house that's gluten free. Anyway, I just wanted to finally introduce myself. I've gotten a lot of information from this forum. I'm looking forward to getting to know you better.

I, too, wonder if gluten is sneaking it's way in to me. I am washing my hands a lot on shared towels. Whenever I am contacting food, eating or doing dishes, I wash my hands and use a paper towel for drying. If I need to do a few dishes, I use paper towels in the inside and a dishtowel on the outside. I use the dishwasher most of the time.

You say you feel well. Did you have symptoms before going gluten free?

I have so many food intolerances, that I don't know what is causing what symptom. I've read that it takes some people a long time to feel better. Could that be me? I question so many things each and every day. Paranoid? You bet I am!!!!!!

lizard00, thank you for the welcome!

Jackay, before going gluten free I suffered from abdominal pain and distention. I'm feeling better although I still deal with the bloating. But not it's not as severe as it was. I also have heard it takes a long time to feel better, so I am hopeful. I hope you find relief soon too!

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
