Hi, Can anyone suggest great tasting and fun cakes/decorations for a childrens birthday cake. I would also love to have some suggestions on a cookbook for cakes/cookies. I was thining of using a box cake mix and decorating with jelly beans or Necco wafers, but I would like to try to make something myself. I want to make something special for my soon to be 3 year old. Thanks! :)

Betty Crocker makes a great gluten free cake mix. I make it all the time for everyone and you can hardle tell the difference! Good Luck

I know you said you wanted homemade, but I thougth I share that we use Kinnikinnick mixes all the time and I have never had anyone know it was gluten-free. As for the "cool" factor, you can get Wilton pans for about $12 in all kinds of great shapes and they really are pretty easy to decorate. You get a very professional looking cake and all you need to know how to do is make stars with a decorator bag and tip. VERY easy. I make a soccer ball one for our son's soccer teams every year and they always get rave reviews and no one has any clue that they are eating gluten free.

For a different "cake" I've seen rice crispies types of cakes. You can mold them and decorate as desired. Open Original Shared Link

I saw a cute cake where you put bits of cake batter in a gluten-free ice-cream cone and then ice the top.

For my son's birthday we made this cake: Open Original Shared Link Casein-free-applesauce-spice-cake.html. He turned three too. It was ok. A little too ricey for me. But I really don't like rice flour.

My oldest son's birthday is coming up. He'll be five and we're going to try this cake: Open Original Shared Link

You could always go outside the box and not do a cake. Do make your own ice-cream sundaes. Or a big cookie. Or dessert bars. A pie. You get the picture. :) When I was a kid I didn't like cake so my mom always made me my request (usually a pumpkin pie or cheesecake).

      Shingles is dormant and related to chicken pox when one has had in the past.Shingles comes out when stress is heightened.I had my 3rd Shingles in 2023.

      Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute.
