I was wondering if anyone has leaky gut syndrome and i wanted to know what kind of symptoms they had while getting treated. I have been diagnosed with leaky gut for about a month now and i am taking a bunch of pre and pro biotcs that my doctor told me to take. Also my doc said that it would take about 2 yrs to rebuild my gut, has anyone ever been told that?? I have gluten sensitivity and some food allergies(dairy, egg, almonds) and i am on a strict gluten free diet and i still get sick and dizzy and I am thinking that is from the leaky gut because i am still in the process of rebuilding my gut, am i wrong on thinking this??? somebody anybody help!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so annoyed :wacko:because i am doing a great diet and taking all my stuff but then again my husband tells me that i need to be patient and that further down the road i will get better. So i am hoping he is right unsure.gif

Give yourself a break! You have not been on the diet long-I saw you joined in April. It took me almost 1 yr. to get the leaky gut under semi-control and I still have my bad days. Stick to "clean" foods right now and stay away from lactose for now. The probiotics are a good start & make sure you drink water to help things flow easier.

He (your husband) is right. I would also suggest you look into the GAPS diet (Open Original Shared Link). I did this for three months and it helped speed my healing tremendously. It was a lot of work at first to get enough stuff prepped up but it was SO worth it for me.

How was leaky gut diagnosed? I am thinking I may also have Leaky gut.

My Naturopath, never told me I had leaky gut, although she said I need to repair my gut so put me on a prebiotic mix, lectin control, and a digestive aid. In the first 6 months I had supplements to help my liver. She told me it could take a couple of years to help repair the gut lining at a cell level. I dont ask to many questions, I have just been taking her advice. I am also on a restrictive diet from other food intolerances.

Thanks

Lisa

Hii there, sorry it took me so long to reply. I got diagnosed by a test that my doctor gave me. it is a stool culture test and i had it sent t the top notch laboratory called Metametrix. They are wonderful, i did a blood test that tested 80 different food groups and i did a stool test covering multiple things to see what bacteria i was lacking, to see if i had any parasites and gluten. It took about 3-4 weeks to get my results. but after 8 years of pain i finally know whats wrong with me :)

Sounds great, was that through your regular GP or one that also practices Natural / Alternative therapies etc.

Thanks, I am going to talk to my GP on my next trip :)

I believe, really, that almost everyone who has intestinal damage from gluten has a leaky gut. That is part of the healing process, and until that heals you can expect to have some symptomatology. The healing time for each person is individual and depends on the work they do to cure it Some people do just fine with probiotics, digestive enzymes, and nutrient supplementation. Others have to dig deeper and work harder at it. Others have to deal with small intestine bacterial overgrowth, parasites. candida, and other complications of being undiagnosed for so long.

Most who have damage to the villi have to avoid lactose until they heal. Some have other food intolerances that have to be identified and eliminated. It is certainly not an overnight process, recovering from the damage of gluten intolerance.

Thanks Scott. They are gluten-free but cross contaminated.

Hi there @MCAyr I have a small umbilical hernia which came about during my second pregnancy.   I can just about see it, and feel it, when I stand or sit, but it is far less noticeable when I lie down.  I always know when I am putting on weight because I can get pain and burning near the site, funnily enough not on the hernia itself but either side!  I would imagine bloating could cause the same effect as weight gain. In my case I don't think it is my bowel protruding but a bit of fat  - sorry,  I realise this isn't painting a very pretty picture.  But in truth it is scarcely noticeable.  It has never really got bigger in size. I was rather hoping that it could be operated on but here in the UK they don't seem to operate on every hernia anymore.  My GP isn't remotely worried about it. In a way, I should be thankful - it is like an early warning system that I need to go on a diet! Cristiana

The hernia description would likely be unrelated to celiac disease, but you'd need to get it checked out by your doctor to be sure it's a hernia.
