The Good, The Bad And The Sister.

Ok, I just ate Campbell's Chicken and Rice soup, thought I was starting a mini panic attack, although it didn't really feel THAT extreme, took half a valium, now I have a dry mouth, extremely thirsty, dizzy, don't feel like getting up and walking and have a headache. I feel slightly glutened, not full blown, but glutened just the same.

I read the label before and after I ate it, nothing funny there....I read on this board the old posts about this soup. There is MSG in it, which I've never tolerated. maybe that's it. I can't believe how thirsty I am. It did have a lot of soy this-and-that stuff in it.

I have quit eating gluten, I've done really well on it, I find that a gluten free diet isn't so extreme and dramatic as it thought it was going to be. Except I drank regular beer last week and felt like crap for two days and now I have about 7 sores in my mouth and on my tongue.

My big sister has had a problem with depression forever. She takes antidepressants for 4-5 months, then goes, "I feel fine, I don't need to be taking these pills". Then she stops, then she gets depressed, then starts them again. I've always gotten so aggravated with her. I'm like, the evidence is RIGHT THERE, what's amatter with you?

That is EXACTLY what I'm doing with gluten. So, yeah, we shouldn't judge each other. I don't know when I'll EVER learn that lesson.

The good news is I am finally getting my teeth fixed. I'm getting 5 cut out (general surgery), then I'm getting these cool new flexible bridges that they make, (after 2-3 months of healing which means I'll have no back teeth for all that time, I don't care, it's worth it). And I'm getting my teeth bleached! I'm so happy about all this! The bleaching is $250 but I'm treating myself. I've always wanted to get my teeth bleached, so I am. It will feel so good to have a happy smile again. I never smile now, don't want no one to see my teeth.

So, yeah, that Campbells soup GOT me. I make the same thing at home cheap and easily.

Sorry for the ramblin!

Sorry you're feeling sick. I get those stupid canker sores if I eat gluten too.

Campbells doesn't claim their soups are gluten free and their broths used to list wheat protein. You probably got CC'd from all the noodle soups on their lines. You can get a list of their gluten-free stuff here.

Progresso has some really nice gluten-free soups. I love their clam chowder and lentil.

Good luck on the dental work! I hope it goes well.

Oh - and tell your big sister to try stopping gluten. Gluten intolerance/celiac is genetic and it can absolutely cause depression.

I agree, there is not one Campbell's soup that I would buy. Even thought it may not list wheat, barley could be an ingredient.

The Canadian Campbell's Gluten Free Listing is quite different from the US.

Unquenchable thirst is one of the main symptoms which lead me to figuring out gluten was bothering me. I didn't really notice anything else at the time. Since then however, I've realized that there were a lot more symptoms. Some I thought were just "normal" for me, and others I blamed on other things entirely.

I agree that your sister should try going gluten-free.

Connie,

No one is judging you for struggling with being gluten free. Everyone has to make up their own mind to follow this way of eating or to be sick. The "sickness" manifests itself in many different ways. I'm sorry you are having trouble coming to terms with this. I hope you have at least one friend or family member supporting you in your desire to eat gluten free. It sounds like your sister needs to be gluten free as well.

P.S. I wouldn't trust anything made by Campbell's. Even their cream of chicken soup has wheat in it.

Hi Connie! I think Sis should go gluten-free, too and see if it helps. Good luck with that! A project to work on after you get yourself sorted out. :P

I thought Campbell's soups were not gluten-free? The only ones I buy are bean with bacon and a couple of the vegetable ones. But I don't have a gluten problem. Daughter does. She doesn't eat them.

I take both Benfotiamine and TTFD.   You might want to start with the Benfotiamine for a few days and then add in the TTFD.   You can look for NeuroMag (Magnesium Threonate).  A magnesium glycinate is fine, too.  Doctor's Best is a good brand.  Don't take more than 300mg total per day of magnesium or it may have a laxative effect.   Be sure to take the B Complex.  The Benfotiamine and TTFD will need the other B vitamins.

Life Extension Benfotiamine with Thiamine has 100MG of Ben and 25 of Thia..... Do you think this is the one I should take or Objective Nutrients Thiamax (TTFD) which has 100MG Thiamine. How much magnesium should I look for? I take the womens 50+ multivitamin since consumerlabs stated and tested that it has the right amount of vitamins and not too much for men and doesn't have BHT which has shown to cause liver cancer in animals. I was never big with multivitamins as well as doctors I just read when I was first going gluten free to take a multi but I think I will stop them and work on trying the super B Thia and Ben, Mag.

Hi all I’ve been celiac for 4 years now, I’ve done pretty well to avoid it thus far. Last night I took the wrong pizza out of the freezer and ate the whole lot!! The non gluten and gluten pizza boxes are both very similar.   2 hours later I was throwing up violently on my hands and knees over the loo.  .horrendous stomach pains,  My hair was wet from sweat every part of my body was wet. What an awful experience, just had a bad headache today  fortunately.    Is their any products/pills anyone takes if they have realised they have just been glutened to make the symptoms a little less worse.  thanks

Yes, do take your B Complex with Benfotiamine or Thiamax.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins in the B Complex to make energy and enzymes, so best to take them together earlier in your day.  Taking them too close to bedtime can keep you too energetic to go to sleep.   The Life Extension Benfotiamine with Thiamine is Benfotiamine and Thiamine Hydrochloride, another form of thiamine the body likes.  The Thiamine HCl just helps the Benfotiamine work better.   Read the label for how many milligrams are in them.  The Mega Benfotiamine is 250 mgs.  Another Benfothiamine has 100 mgs.  You might want to start with the 100 mg.    I like to take Thiamax in the morning with a B Complex at breakfast.  I take the Benfotiamine with another meal.  You can take your multivitamin with Benfotiamine at lunch.   Add a magnesium supplement, too.  Thiamine needs magnesium to make some important enzymes.  Life Extension makes Neuro-Mag, Magnesium Threonate, which is really beneficial.  (Don't take Magnesium Oxide.  It's not absorbed well, instead it pulls water into the digestive tract and is used to relieve constipation.)  I'm not a big fan of multivitamins because they don't always dissolve well in our intestines, and give people a false sense of security.  (There's videos on how to test how well your multivitamin dissolves.).  Multivitamins don't prevent deficiencies and aren't strong enough to correct deficiencies.   I'm happy you are trying Thiamax and Benfotiamine!  Keep us posted on your progress!  I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

I looked further into Thiamax Vitamin B1 by objective nutrients and read all the great reviews. I think I will give this a try. I noticed only possible side affect is possibly the first week so body adjusts. Life Extensions carries Benfotiamine with Thiamine and the mega one you mentioned. Not sure if both in one is better or seperate. some reviews state a laxative affect as side affect. SHould I take with my super B complex or just these 2 and multivitamin? I will do further research but I appreciate the wonderful explanation you provided on Thiamine.
