Is It Possible That All This Adds Up To Celiac?

Doctor was convinced I was just depressed!

So I left that MD and started on my search to figure out what is going on.

Is it possible that all this adds up to celiac?

MDs say it is polyneuropathy

  • when I get over heated or perspire I get this sensation of being stuck with pins and needles
  • Have the sensation of wax hardened on my feet
  • numbing and tingling [just recently read might be connected with Celiac, something with vitamin B complex]
  • sensation of bug crawlng up my leg, walking through spider web

MDs say it is restless leg

  • when sitting, lying relaxed will at times jerk unintentionally
  • leg feels like it is wound up like a rubber band-shows up when my bowels symtoms flare up
  • at times can not take a step forward because of pain- just recently connected this with bowel symptoms- [i thought I had hurt my hip I am an active gardener]

MDs say it is fibromyalgya

  • very tired, I mean very very tired
  • muscles ache and feel like they have shrunk

MDs say it is IBS

  • abdominal bloating
  • abdominal cramping
  • almost always when over heated-cramping and diarrhia
  • abdominal churning

leg cramps sometimes 4 a day, also at night- was actually on quinine for a while

stomach muscle has also cramped on occassion- between my ribs and belly button

Craziest symptom: Always hungry- as if I am craving nutrition, so of course I am over weight. I have tried drinking a full glass of water before eating to try and get a full sensation-doesn't help.

Am I actually having nausea and feeling it is hunger?

You should go back to your doctor and demand to be screened for celiac. Yes your issues could be due to gluten. Do not go gluten free until after all the testing you choose to do is finished.

Welcome. Entirely possible this is celiac. You have to be eating gluten for diagnostic testing, so the best thing to do would be to go to a doctor and ask for a celiac blood panel. Once the testing is done I would try the diet no matter what the outcome as the testing has a high false negative rate.

My friend who has celiac said she thought I had it so I went on a gluten free diet, well as best I could. We were on vacation eating out every evening so no visible gluten eaten.

How long do I need to be back eating gluten before I get tested?

More info my grandmother is said to have been allergic to flour- she wore white glove when handling it. I believe she still ate bread and visited every bathroom in every state she was ever in!!

That sounds familiar. My grandmother switched to cornbread when she was feeling ill. Said it was "easier on her stomach" than wheat.

To be blood tested, You need to be eating gluten for at least a month. The common recommendation around here is four slices of bread a day worth of gluten. It can take as long as three months of eating gluten to get a positive biopsy. If you weren't off gluten very long, like a week or two, the biopsy won't be a problem as long as you start eating gluten again as it takes a while for villi to heal.

I had all the symptoms you described in your post prior to my being diagnosed with Graves disease, which is also an auto-immune disease. Also,I has blood test recently for Celiac disease and came back positive, even though I had been Gluten free for a month already.

There is a good post at "The Healthy Skeptic" blog regarding the Gluten-Thyroid connection. The anti bodies that attack your gut and also attack your Thyroid gland.

Well I went back on gluten for 2 weeks had a colonoscopy that was previously ordered. My diverticulosis has spread throughout my entire colon.

p.s I forgot to mention that but did find that interesting thread on how gluten free helped "cure" someone's diverticulosis.

Anyway I felt horrible on the gluten and could not stand it, never heard back from my MD. Every symptom was even worse so I am gluten free on my own. AND I broke out with as least 3 canker sores over that 2 week period.

I hate it how after the colonoscopy you talk to the MD and you are so doped up you don't even know you are talking to him!!

So now approximately 4 weeks later- I am feeling great. No bloaating, no churning! I can move around without the cramping and D setting in so walking 1 mile a day M-F and have lost 10 pounds. I finally feel satisfied when I eat?!?

I think every once and a while gluten slips in and flare ups occur. Who knew taco seasonibg had gluten and tomato soup!!

I have less burning in my feet. I used to have it every night now I have a day or 2 here and there that they don't burn.

Hi I'm glad your feeling better. I may be the person you were referring to with the diverticulosis. My GI was amazed at how that had basically gone away. It sure wasn't expected. Did your doctor do an endo also? If the GI was looking for celiac in the colonoscopy he is a clueless GI. You need to go in from the other end to look for celiac changes. I am always amazed how many GI don't even know how to test for celiac.

The important thing is your doing better on the diet. As your finding out gluten can be found in many unexpected items. To heal the fasted try to go with mostly whole foods until you are well healed.

      Shingles is dormant and related to chicken pox when one has had in the past.Shingles comes out when stress is heightened.I had my 3rd Shingles in 2023.
