Hair Graying, Thinning & Weight Gain

My hair has been graying significantly over the course of the past 6-8 months and is also thinning. Last blood workup was december and everything was clean except a slightly high liver ALT enzyme, which i need to retest soon. I also cant gain weight- i just stay at 145. What could be causing this?

How old are you? Could the hair loss/graying be a normal event due to age?

some times trauma (and trauma does not have to be physical injury to the head) can cause hair color to change. my grandmother turned 30 and pretty much turned WHITE overnight. no one could ever figure out why.

DITTO! Plenty of folks out there, celiac or not who begin graying in their 20"s. It's what keep hairdressers in business. Weight gain and gray hair are a normal part of aging. Decreased metabolism during the aging process is normal. Maybe why I'm seeing more and more over 60's at my gym.

It can be part of the aging process but it can also be caused by illness or stress. If the loss is in the areas that are common for male pattern baldness, top and sides or on the crown and you have other family members who have gone bald it may just be genetic. If the loss is diffuse, or all over your head then the chances that it comes from your illness is IMHO higher. Before my diagnosis I had lost a significant amount of hair and the hair was turning white at a rapid pace. Once I healed my hair grew back and much of it grew back brown. Now when I get glutened I have a lot of hair that drops for a month or two after but it does grow back. It takes about 3 months for the regrowth to become obvious. A dermatologist can tell you whether your loss is due to heredity or due to your illness.

Your response on this matter is what I expect. You’ve had a similar episode years ago, but this one is lasting longer!

I'd like to clarify: Is the pain you describe in the area just below your chest constant, or does it only appear when you start moving?

Shingles is dormant and related to chicken pox when one has had in the past.Shingles comes out when stress is heightened.I had my 3rd Shingles in 2023.

Thank you for the links to the articles.  Interesting reading. I'll be telling my brother in law because he has a lot of pain
