I'm in need of a homemade mayo recipe. All the store bought ones contain either diary, gluten, or soy. I cannot eat any of that. I'd rather make my own and know it's safe :D

Anybody know of a good mayo recipe?

I have not tried making it yet (so no recipe), but I have read you can make it with olive oil, but be sure to use LIGHT olive oil, NOT Extra virgin or virgin or regular. Something about the olive oil becoming bitter when it is emulsified. I read that Light olive oil does not become as bitter. But I haven't tried making it yet. I was never a big mayo eater, so I haven't missed it much.

Here's an easy recipe:

2 egg yolks

3 tbsp. lemon juice

1/4 tsp. salt

pinch pepper

1 c. oil (I prefer plain old canola to olive oil for this)

optional flavorings:

1/2 tsp. ground mustard

1/4 tsp. paprika

(These are what make Miracle Whip what it is, if you happen to like Miracle Whip better, like I do.)

How to's:

Combine egg yolks, lemon juice, salt & pepper (and seasonings if you're using them) into a mixing bowl or food processor bowl. Whisk or blend until smooth and the color lightens slightly.

Whisk or blend in remaining oil very slowly (a few drops at a time at first if whisking by hand) until about 1/3 of the oil is incorporated. Then, gradually increase pouring the oil as a thin stream until you have a thick emulsion (fancy word for what mayo is) and the oil is totally incorporated.

Refrigerate immediately. Use within 1 week.

I recently bought Hellmann's Canola Cholesterol Free Mayonnaise and it's marked gluten free. No soy or dairy (includes Parve symbol). It's a Unilever product. Phone: 1-800-418-3275. Hope this helps...

Thanks for the recipe. I might even try to get that Hellman's in the meantime. I'm not a big mayo person, I'm a mustard person. But my kiddos love sandwiches with egg salad or chicken salad. And, I cannot lie, I also love a helping of chicken salad :D

West of the rockies, Hellman's is known as Best Foods, and they also have a canola mayonnaise with no dairy or soy. Spectrum Canola mayonnaise is also dairy and soy free, but a bit more expensive. Check the ingredient label, because different varieties are made. I've made mayonnaise from scratch, and it tastes just like the real thing when made with canola oil. I made some with olive oil once, and it had to be thrown out, it tasted awful.

This is the mayo recipe I use all the time.... gluten-free Mayo....1/2 C oil (I use olive light), 1/2 C water, 1 Tab. apple cider Vinegar, 1 Tab. Lemon juice, 1/4 tsp. dry mustard powder, 1/2 tsp. sugar, 1/2 tsp. salt, 1 tsp sweet rice flour, 1/2 tsp. Xanthan...put all ingredients in a blender jar and blend for about 3 minutes....This is the basic recipe...I usually add some seasonings....I add 1/2 tsp. garlic powder, 1/2 tsp. onion powder, 1 tsp. parsley flakes, and a small pinch cayenne to make it a ranch dressing......but you can add any seasoning you like......I have a Hamilton Beach blender and can use a pint jar with the blender cutters screwed on....then I don't have to remove the mayo from the blender jar, I just put on a jar lid....this keeps well in the frig....about 2 weeks....however, it never lasts that long here.....

OMG, you said RANCH! That is music to my ears after going dairy free. I used to love Ranch, but it's just a memory now. I'll try this mayo and see how it compares. Yummy. And good idea about attaching the jar to the machine.

Interesting about the name change on Hellman's. We just bought a jar of the Spectrum and were surprised that our canola variety had soy and gluten traces. The company was reluctant to tell me about the gluten traces, but I squeezed it out of her. I really like most of Spectrum's products, so I was bummed the mayo didn't work out :( We use their coconut oil for cooking Asian food. Gives the food such a yummy sweet flavor!

      I’ve been using almond flour from nuts.com for over 10 years. I have dermatitis herpetiformis all over. The rash started about two months ago. I finally eliminated the almond flour, labeled certified gluten free, two weeks ago, and I think the dermatitis herpetiformis is finally healing. I am so bummed.

      If you need that designation you'll likely need to switch to a different brand. It's unfortunate that they don't add it to their label and test for gluten.

      Thank you for the reply  , I have tried the Baush & Lomb brand and did have a gluten reaction.  O spoke to the mfg and they state the same as many other mfgs.   - NO Gluten intentionally added to product , but they have no control ( they choose not to) over their suppliers of various ingredients  I am really trying to only take vitamins  that clearly state gluten free

      DiGiorno reformulated and have not been using wheat starch for a couple of years now, so this should not be an issue: https://www.goodnes.com/digiorno/products/digiorno-gluten-free-frozen-pepperoni-pizza/ It does contain other ingredients that may be causing you IBS-like issues, for example guar gum.  Many gluten-free foods and baking mixes contain xanthan gum or other gums like guar gum. Although they are both gluten-free, they may cause IBS-type issues in some people with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity:
