What Is Up With The Brain Fog?

Well, I got glutened about 2 weeks ago, and i'm feeling better, but it really seems like the brain fog is as bad as ever. has anyone else had similar experiences with recovering from a glutening?

I carelessly had a chai from the health food store, which i know they make on the stovetop from scratch in the kitchen (which also has a pizza oven in it), so i either got CC from the kitchen, or maybe the spices? Anyways, I got super irritable, and unpleasant, just upset about everything, my hip got stiff and achy so i was literally limping, my right arm got all tingly again, my dermititas herpetiformis flared up on my scalp, also felt fatigued, and slept much more than usual.

all the above has gotten better, but I have to say that the brain fog i've been having does'nt seem to be going away; it's kind of scary, i'm making really stupid mistakes, and just can't think that clearly. When I quit the dairy, and stopped eating out, thereby kicking the CC, I went through about a month of massive brain fog, along with feeling super-horrible and run down, but i just feel like by now i 'should be doing better than i am, and the results of being in the fog really has me concerned, if this does'nt get better i feel like i'm in real trouble.

Have you ever tried taking L-glutamine? Apologies if you have, and it didn't help. But anytime the gluten symptoms show up, it kills them in a real hurry. Usually 10-15 minutes. It's also stopped a depression I got at one point (non-gluten related as far as I could tell), and seems to help with brain fog from non-gluten causes.

If you haven't, try it out and see if it helps. I take GNC's chewable tablet form.

If you have, then I'm afraid I have no idea how to help.

I don't have much advice to offer, though I do hope you feel better soon!

I had my first proper glutening in June (gluten-free since January this year) and it took ten days for my symptoms to clear. The last to go was a big increase in muddling my words, which was highly entertaining to everyone except me :) Thing is, I had horrible brain fog for most of June and July which has gone back to my previous low-level muddleness in recent weeks. It's possible this was due to excluding various other foods from my diet but I guess also possible it was just the gluten.

So I guess I'm asking - does anyone else find that brain fog can really linger after being glutened?

Thanks, I got the l-glutamine ( gluten free) and also realized I had run out of fish oil @ 4 days ago, maybe that had something to do with it?

I've been trying to take it easy with the fish oil because it has some iodine which I learned recently I need to avoid because of the dermititas herpetiformis. I called the company and they said it contains a really miniscule amount, but I haven't been going big with the fish oil, which some peope do apparantly,

I really should get my vitimin levels checked and my thyroid?

You might try Heallix.  It's a silver solution with fulvic acid. I just put the solution on with a cotton ball.  It seemed to stop the nerve pain. Again,  not in your eyes or ears.   Go to heallix.com to read more about it and decide for yourself Also,  I do think nerve and celiac combined have a lot to do with your susceptibility to shingles breaking out.

Celiac disease requires both genetic potential and a triggering stress event to activate the genes. Otherwise it remains dormant and only a potential problem. So having the genetic potential is not deterministic for celiac disease. Many more people have the genes than actually develop the disease. But if you don't have the genes, the symptoms are likely being caused by something else.

Yes, i pulled raw ancetry data and saw i have 2/3 markers for DQ2.2 but have heard from friends in genetics that this raw data can be wildly innacurate

Thanks, I’m still dealing with the pain and tingling and itching and feeling like bugs or something crawling around on my face and scalp. It’s been a miserable experience. I saw my eye doc last week, the eye itself was okay, so they didn’t do anything. I did take a 7 day course of an antiviral. I’m hoping for a turnaround soon! My life is full of stress but I have been on / off the gluten free diet for the last year , after being talked into going back on gluten to have a biopsy, that looked okay. But I do have positive antibody levels that have been responsive  to a gluten free diet. I can’t help but wonder if the last year has caused all this.

I don't think any apps are up to date, which is exactly why this happened to you. Most of the data in such apps is years old, and it doesn't get updated in real time. Ultimately there is no substitution for learning to read labels. The following two lists are very helpful for anyone who is gluten sensitive and needs to avoid gluten when shopping. It's very important to learn to read labels and understand sources of hidden gluten, and to know some general information about product labelling--for example in the USA if wheat is a possible allergen it must be declared on a product's ingredient label like this: Allergens: Wheat.
