Hi I have always had problems with going to the bathroom etc. When I was pregnant with my daughter things got really bad and after that I was getting fatty diarrhoea on a daily basis.Constantly tired I could sleep for 14 hours and still be tired. Urgency also. My skin was terrible always breaking out and my gums bleeding. People would comment that I always look pale. Before my pregnancy I was 13 stone a month after having my baby I was 11 stone ( sick all pregnancy) When things were at the worst I was constant bloated and stomach pains then run to the bathroom. I said to the doctor I thought it was lactose also as that seemed to tigger it off also. I done a diary and things that caused it was gluten related. Even past episodes of it came back to gluten. So I got tested and my IgA was only 0.4 so not even close to gluten related. I have been gluten-free for about 9 months now and felt fantastic ! untill I got gluten and for about a week later. I was still sick. I am getting the camera on wednesday so back on gluten and feel terrible. Going to the bathroom 4+ times with diarrhoea and belly pain. Constant taste of sick in my mouth. My stomach is huge. I was in hospital two weeks ago and people asked me when I was due ! my skin is breaking out again. For the last 3 days my poop has been a light sandy colour. I am getting dark black specks in the poop with come lumps that look like coal. Can anyone please relate to this. I am desperate to find out what is going on with me.

Well it sounds like your in the right place. You felt better gluten free and see symptoms return when you accidentally get gluten and feel horrible on the challenge. No matter what your test shows you need to get back on the diet after the test is finsihed.

Please be aware that even though your symptoms are back it doesn't mean that the camera scope will show that you are celiac. How long have you been doing the challenge? It is advised for the challenge to last at least 2 months and even then the scope may be a false negative.

When they did the blood test did they do a total IGA? If your total IGA testing shows you are IGA deficient it will cause a false negative on the blood tests.

Let your doctor know how the challenge is effecting you and ask if you should continue. If your date for the camera scope is less than a couple months away if a doctor derived diagnosis is important to you then you should talk to the doctor about rescheduling. That said you don't need the doctors permission to eat gluten free. If you are in an area where you can get financial assistance for gluten free food then the choice is up to you whether to continue. Do keep your doctor advised of what is going on with the challenge. Also do ask if they did the total IGA and if they didn't if they will do it.

My camera is on this Wednesday coming. My doctor does not care to be honest.I was told on the first day seeing him its ibs ( without any tests done) also I had a urine infection and the meds he gave me gave me terrible headaches. that was apparently funny. He is useless I only reason I got referred to the hospital now was that my pains were so bad I went to A and E. I get no assistance for gluten free food we have been buying everything.

Stick with it until you have the procedure done, then regardless of what it shows, if you feel better eating gluten-free, then that's what you should do. More and more evidence is coming out that humans in general have trouble processing wheat, and many health problems are starting to be linked to wheat. Don't go broke buying gluten-free breads, bagels, mixes, etc - instead of substituting these things do without them and eat fruits and vegetables, meat, cheese, eggs, nuts. People in this forum will be a great help.

Thank you for your reply. Gluten free things are expensive but we have been making our own bread etc. It took a while to get it somewhat edible but it was lovely. Everyone loved our home made gluten free wedding cake.It turned out perfect ! I just have to stick with it untill its over. Since going back on the gluten I cant sleep at night and I am constantly sweating . It was nice to have a burger though :)

      plant sources of calcium, such as spinach, have calcium bound to oxalates, which is not good. best source of calcium is unfortunately dairy, do you tolerate dairy? fermented dairy like kefir is good and or a little hard cheese. i do eat dairy, i can only take so much dietary restriction and gluten is hard enough! but i guess some people do have bad reactions to it, so different for everyone.

      i take b12, folate, b2, b6, glycine, Nac, zinc, vk2 mk4, magnesium, coq10, pqq, tmg, creatine, omega 3, molybdnem (sp) and just started vit d. quite a list i know.  I have high homocysteine (last checked it was 19, but is always high and i finally decided to do something about it) and very low vitamin d, 10. have been opposed to this supp in the past, but going to try it at 5k units a day. having a pth test on friday, which is suspect will be high. my homocysteine has come down to around 9 with 3 weeks of these supplements and expect it to go down further. i also started on estrogen/progesterone. I have osteoporosis too, so that is why the hormones.  anyway, i think all celiacs should have homocysteine checked and treated if needed (easy enough with b vit, tmg). homocysteine very bad thing to be high for a whole host of reasons. all the bad ones, heart attack , stroke, alzi, cancer..... one of the most annoying things about celiacs (and there are so many!) is the weight gain. i guess i stayed thin all those years being undiagnosed because i was under absorbing everything including calories. going gluten-free and the weight gain has been terrible, 30#, but i'm sure a lot more went into that (hip replacement - and years of hip pain leading to inactivity when i was previously very active, probably all related to celiacs, menopause) yada yada. i seemed to lose appetite control, like there was low glp, or leptin or whatever all those hormones are that tell you that you are full and to stop eating. my appetite is immense and i'm never full. i guess decades or more ( i think i have had celiacs since at least my teens - was hospitalized for abdominal pain and diarrhea for which spastic colon was eventually diagnosed and had many episodes of diarrhea/abdominal pain through my 20's. but that symptom seemed to go away and i related it to dairy much more so than gluten. Also my growth was stunted, i'm the only shorty in my family. anyway, decades of malabsorption and maldigestion led to constant hunger, at least thats my theory. then when i started absorbing normally, wham!! FAT!!!

      Great advise there I agree with the aniexty part, and the aura migraine has I suffer both, I've also read some great books that have helped I'm going too look the one you mentioned up too thankyou for that, I find a camomile tea just a small one and a gentle wind down before bed has helped me too, I suffer from restless leg syndrome and nerve pain hence I don't always sleep well at the best of times , racing mind catches up I have decorated my whole house in one night in my mind before 🤣 diet changes mindset really help , although I have to say it never just disappears, I find once I came to terms with who I am I managed a lot better  , a misconception is for many to change , that means to heal but that's not always the case , understanding and finding your coping mechanisms are vital tools , it's more productive to find that because there is no failure then no pressure to become something else , it's ok to be sad it's ok to not sleep , it's ok to worry , just try to see it has a journey not a task 🤗

      I agree there I've tryed this myself to prove I can't eat gluten or lactose and it sets me back for about a month till I have to go back to being very strict to settle again

      You may also need to supplement with B12 as this vitamin is also involved in iron assimilation and is often deficient in long-term undiagnosed celiac disease.
