Hello experienced peoples,

I just have a hopefully quick question or two. Ever since I was about in middle school I have had different things wrong with my body (constant headaches, bouts of painful diarrhea once in a while, painful joints and muscles, mouth sores, etc.) and this year, different people suggested that I might need to go on a gluten free diet. I fought it for a long time because I LOVE to bake. If I didn't love my job already I would go to a school to learn pastry making :D Anyway, after researching it further this summer and realizing how much excedrin I take, I decided to give it a try. I don't have any insurance and it seemed like just going on the diet would show me if I had a sensitivity or celiac disease, so starting September first, I went totally gluten free. As much as I know how, I have been extremely careful about not consuming anything with gluten. I make all my own food, so this is pretty easy to do. (well, not emotionally, but... haha)

Anyway, it's been over a month now, and I don't notice any difference. Do I keep going hoping for the best? Or should I start looking for other possible solutions? Thanks for your time in advance!

Hi and welcome! Are you still having all the same symptoms? Something to think about is cross contamination. Are you still using the same toaster, nonstick pans, wood or plastic spoons and cutting boards? You will want to replace these. Also, are you still consuming dairy? A lot of celiacs can't have dairy for a while. Something you could do is to keep a food dairy, just put down the foods you consume and list your reactions. You might find something you thought was safe isn't or that your body just can't tolerate it. If I were you, I would give it a couple more months.

I have been gluten-free since the end of May and I am really glad I stuck with it. Good Luck!

      Shingles is dormant and related to chicken pox when one has had in the past.Shingles comes out when stress is heightened.I had my 3rd Shingles in 2023.

      Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute.
