Severe Pain

So...my stomach blew up like a freakin balloon again last night, nothing different there. But this time after 1.5hrs sleep i woke with SEVERE stomach pain. It was a constant pain coupled with extra waves of cramp so painful i was calling out. I had similar episodes twice last week but the pain was nothing like this, curiously each time has been worse than the last. Also the D started during the ngiht this time, about 2hrs after i woke, it normally only starts at 'getting up time 8am'. And the D was even worse - more explosve, liquidy etc

Saw GP first thing this morning who is taking it seriously - thank god someone is at last. Done tests, inc celiac panel. And told me if it ever gets as bad again to call emergency DR. So all day now (it's after 4pm here) i've been in low grade pain, unable to eat or even drink.

2 questions;

has anyone else found that every attack gets worse each time? does celiac present like this (as well as the usual D everyday) I've only been on a 'normal diet' for 2 weeks as i stopped eating pretty much altogether as i felt so sick and had D all the time i was miserabel but not eating helped it. But obv couldn't continue like that so started eating inc gluten so i celiac disease get tested.

secondly, what do u guys find u can tolerate to eat/drink when ur stomach is so painful? drinking is actually worse than eating a plain rice cracker (i've had 2 and nothing not even water all day) with the D that i had for so many hours i'm guessing i shoudl really drink...i feel so yuk

It sure sounds like you've gotten a pretty conclusive answer from your own body as to whether gluten is a no-no. So regardless of test results, I'm sure you know you must not eat gluten. And, since you have to be eating gluten for six weeks or more for the tests to have the typical accuracy (which is still not very high), I think you'd be ill-advised to continue just for the sake of tests. Can you honestly continue eating gluten for another month? Some doctors will diagnose based on such severe reactions to a gluten challenge. I'd suggest that you ask for that so you can begin healing before more damage is done. Seriously, you do not want to cause more permanent damage than what may have already been done.

And yes, the reactions can continue to worsen over time. Again, I highly recommend you cut your losses and discuss with your doctor getting a formal diagnosis based more on your reactions than on unreliable test results.

We all have our own reactions, but for some, yes, they can get very painful. Your body is basically destroying your small intestine when it actively attacks gluten in your bowel. It isn't going to feel good, especially if the damage is severe. Of course the same auto-immune system kills germs and parasites for us and keeps us alive. It's a powerful system and not afraid to attack invaders. Or us.

I would probably eat plain chicken, with salt on it. Even that doesn't work sometimes though. Sometimes it would come right back up for me, before I could even get it all the way swallowed. And rolling around on the floor all night in pain was not unusual for me either. Not sleeping either of course. We got's to have our fun somehow I guess. Makes it interesting when you are working a high workload job with long hours too.

      Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.

      That sounds so very likely in my case! I will absolutely ask my doctor on my next bone check coming up in March... Thanks a lot!

      Calcium levels as measured in the blood can be quite deceiving as the body will rob calcium from the bones to meet demands for it by other bodily functions. Also, supplementing with calcium can be counterproductive as it tends to raise gut pH and decrease absorption. More often than not, the problem is poor absorption to begin with rather than deficiency of intake amounts in the diet. Calcium needs an acidic environment to be absorbed. This is why so many people on PPIs develop osteoporosis. The PPIs raise gut pH. And some people have high gut PH for other reasons. Low pH equates to a more acidic environment whereas high pH equates to a more basic (less acidic) environment.

      Kind thanks for all this valuable information! Since my Folate was/is low and also my Calcium, there IS a chance I am low in B vitamins... My doctor only measured the first two, oh and Zinc as I has twisted her arm and guess what, that was mega low too. So who knows, until I get myself tested properly, what else I am deficient in... I did a hair mineral test recently and it said to avoid All sources of Calcium. But this is confusing for me as my Ca is so low and I have osteoporosis because of this. It is my Adjusted Ca that is on the higher side and shouldn't be. So am not sure why the mineral test showed high Ca (well, it was medium in the test but relative to my lowish Magnesium, also via hair sample, it was high I was told). But anyway, thanks again for the VitB download, I will look into this most certainly!

      Hello good afternoon, I was wondering if anyone has ever brought their anti-allergy pills? I have been wanting to use their Cetirizine HCI 10mg. They are called HealthA2Z and distributed by Allegiant Health.I’m also Asthmatic and these allergies are terrible for me but I also want to be sure they don’t have any sort of gluten compound.    I have tried calling them but to no avail. Has anyone ever used them? If so, did you had any problems or no problems at all?    thank you
