Tolerating Child's Cranky/whiny/irritable Behavior?

We are still waiting for a scope and biopsy. Longest 2 weeks ever and I am sure we have more to wait. My 4 year old is constatly whiny, irritable, ugging her sister etc. I am sure most of it is due to not feeling well. Any advice on how to tolerate this? I know I should have more patience but this behavior is awful. It is also hard to tell my older daughter to ignore her sisters behavior or excuse it. I am also stressed and worried about my daughter and perhaps loosing my cool faster than I should. Any advice?? I so badly wish we could move forward with a gluten free diet.

That's tough! I recommend a time out, for Mom.

Can you and Dad take turns with cranky one? Maybe there is a grandma or friend that could give you a break?

I would try to keep the kids apart with separate activities and areas of the house if possible.

Hang in there!

I have this issue. My daughter is actually now gluten free, dairy free and corn free. Corn especially just makes her CRAZY. I always feel bad when my husband harshly disciplines her during these crazy episodes because I personally know how food can make you feel insane. Not just pain management but really really out of your mind. So I try and make sure she keeps calm and holds it together when we have "accidents" because when she is eating properly her behavior really is lovely. I hope your daughter is able to go on her diet quickly and you see some positive changes.

We had that problem with my son. My husband wanted to punish him severely, but nothing much worked until we got him off gluten. I really didn't think that he could help it. Now it only happens when he gets gluten by accident. It drives me crazy then, but at least I know that it will go away soon. Hang on to that thought.

Hang in there! I agree with trying to find someone who can spell you, so you can get a break.

I ended up caving in on the whole endo thing. My daughter is having hers on December 29th. However, I did tell the GI that I was not going to keep feeding her gluten between now and then after her last painful episode. She felt that she would still find the damage in two weeks, so she agreed.

Daura Damm (a sponsor here) uses AN-PEP enzymes and filtering in their brewing process to reduce/remove gluten, and it actually tests below 10ppm (I've see a document where they claim 5ppm).

This topic has come up before on this forum and has been researched. No GMO wheat, barley and rye are commercially available in the USA. Any modifications are from hybridization, not laboratory genetic modification. Better toleration of wheat, barley and rye products in other countries is thought to be due to use of heirloom varieties of these cereal grains as opposed to the hybrids used in the USA which contain much larger amounts of gluten.

Welcome to the forum @Ceekay! If you have celiac disease then you can't eat wheat in other countries because it would still contain gliadin, the harmful part of the grain. Have you been diagnosed with celiac disease?

I can eat wheat products safely and without discomfort when traveling to Mexico, Outer Mongolia, and Japan. I feel that US wheat, barley, and rye are grown from genetically-modified seeds that have had something unhealthy done to them, that causes a bad reaction in many of us.

I think all barley and barley malt  have gluten. I would avoid it. The only gluten-free beer I've tried that tastes good is by Holidaily, a Colorado brewery. Their Fat Randy's IPA is great, except that it's almost impossible to find and grocers won't order it (they're at the mercy of their "food distributors," who seem to hate Holidaily). If you can find any Holidaily, try it--it's great. Never mind Spain -;)
