Specific Carbohydrate Diet

Has anyone tried this diet? If you did, did you have any decrease in symptoms while being on it? I cannot tolerate any grain or starchy vegetable. This diet is supposed to help Celiacs by allowing the gut to heal. I also cannot tolerate eggs, dairy, or soy. So, as you all can relate to, finding things to eat is not easy. I thought I was the only celiac that could not tolerate any grains or starch, until I noticed a few people on this message board also cannot. Anyway, if anyone has tried this diet, i would love to hear your opinions about it.

I am on this diet and absolutely love it because I finally feel 100% after going gluten-free. I didn't buy the yogurt maker right away, and I didn't see as much improvement as I had hoped, but since buying one and making my own yogurt, I have had so much improvement and I feel fantastic, but since you cannot tolerate dairy, I guess you will not be getting one :P . There is another member that said she couldn't tolerate dairy before this diet, and now she can. Obviously only she can tell you more about that. Good luck, and I highly recommend it.

Hi, I'm also on the Specific Carb Diet. I'm finally seeing a decrease in symptoms for the first time since I started feeling sick years ago. I would encourage you to try it for a few weeks and see how you feel. Your body will tell you whether the diet is right for you or not.

About the yogurt - I think taking a probiotic will reap the same benefits without the dairy.

If you decide to start, join our posts in the Diet and Weight section of this board. Good luck!!

I have been off line for awhile my computer crashed and burned had to get a new one!!! What is this special carb diet? How does it work? where can I get more information on it? I am very overweight and I have been trying hard to stay gluten-free but I am still having lots of problems. Everytime I eat my tummy starts cramping and oooops to the bathroom I have to run!!! Even if it is gluten-free things I am putting into my mouth. I have lost 20 lbs in a 3 week spand and now I am not loosing any weight but still have the cramps and d after eating. Any advice would be so much helpful and appreciated :P

Hi there, you can find info about the Specific Carbohydrate Diet on this site. It is a book called "Breaking the Vicious Cycle". After reading the postings and success with this diet, I am off to buy my own copy today.

Good luck!

Yes, I am on the SCD ~ and as noted above ~ I could not tolerate dairy before the diet, and have been able to eat it after being on the diet for about two months.

It has been around 4 mos. now, and I feel great. It really does allow your "gut" to heal. Is it easy? No, but it is worth it. I LOVE being able to eat cheese again. :)

IF you decide to go this route, please join our other thread. We don't post daily, but it is nice to keep up from time to time with others on the same "road" as you!!

Good luck! :)

I’m having this type of MRI this afternoon,  What specifically do you want to know?  From what I’ve read, not all facilities use the same drink prep.

Hi I've been told I need a MRI on my bowels , I was booked for a colonoscopy, but because of my sever back issues and trapped nerve it can't be done , the nurse told me I will have to have a manitol drink a hour before the scan , I'm just a bit worried has I have issues with sweeteners like even a little,  I get a weird throat and ears and I've read it is a similar substance , not sure if anyone has had one of these scans or could give me some advise on the drink prep thanks in advance 😄

Hi all ! Can a celiac attack be so intense that it causes your entire body to work in reverse? Meaning really bad pain,  neuropathy and muscle,  jaw pain,  the stomach issues , Horrible anxiety and confusion??  I had a Tums and you would think I ate poison. My jaw and stomach did not like it . Not the norm for me. Things that are simple are just out of control. Anyone ever have this happen??  I'm trying to figure out what I ate or did to bring on a celiac like attack. I had an idea before but yesterday I didn't have any gluten unless it was in a medication ?! Any positive suggestions ??  Thank you

The following two lists are very helpful for anyone who is gluten sensitive and needs to avoid gluten when shopping. It's very important to learn to read labels and understand sources of hidden gluten, and to know some general information about product labelling--for example in the USA if wheat is a possible allergen it must be declared on a product's ingredient label like this: Allergens: Wheat.
