Well, I may not have celiac disease. Started eating regular flour stuff again and have not had a problem at all.

So, I do not know what to think.

I was recently tested neg for celiac disease as were two of my kids. However, I also just read the book Dangerous Grains. We all went gluten free. My husband doesn't want to be 100% gluten-free, so he's still dabbling in gluten. Oh well, he's a grown-up. He can decide for himself! I would recommend you read Dangerous grains. If you've felt even slightly better without gluten in your diet, you may have a degree of gluten sensitivity that is relieved without gluten in your daily foods. I know I feel better being gluten free. I also went dairy free at the same time. I've never felt better.

Unfortunately, just because you don't have symptoms doesn't mean you don't have celiac disease.

Symptoms don't mean anything at all. Some people never get symptoms with it. Everyone is different.

Intestinal damage can still occur without symptoms. I believe it is called silent celiac disease.

Sorry if you have said before, but have you been tested?

Sorry, I think I got you mixed up with another poster.

I hadn't been eating gluten free before having the antibody test done. I started eating gluten free after having the test done because the gastro PA told me to eat gluten-free for 6 months. I'm now 3 months in.

I tend to agree with RMJ. Your doc took the reasonable and practical approach to diagnosis. All things considered, it was the right way to go. However, if you have first degree relatives that show signs of possible celiac disease, urge them to get formally tested before they start the gluten free diet.

It sounds like you have a very reasonable GI doctor, who diagnosed you based on family history and symptoms after eating gluten. I would consider you lucky! The other option would be to make yourself very sick by doing weeks of a gluten challenge prior to an endoscopy.
