Altho I have had an EGD before I have never had anything biopsied besides an ovary before :P I am so dreading going in to get these procedures done. I know that SOMETHING is wrong. I guess I am just afraid that these test will also come back negative. If they do then I am right back at square one! Now don't get me wrong, I don't want anything to be wrong with me. I just know that something is going on and I want answers!!!!

I picked up my meds for my bowel prep today. Have I mentioned that I am not looking forward to this????? :unsure:

Hun i did my endo on tuesday. I was NOT looking foward to it, however i wanted it done to figure out what was going wrong with me. Luckly i told my nurse that preped me this and the staff did their best to try to keep me in good spirits. :)

Fyi, mine came back negative :( so no idea where i'm going from here :(

But buck up :) it could always be worse.

Absolutely no one enjoys the bowel prep - it's just one of those things that you get through :rolleyes:

Yes, you can look forward to some answers - even negative ones, which will mean you don't have ulcerative colitis, Crohn's Disease, polyps, and that you have not severely damaged your small intestine.

That doesn't mean nothing's wrong; it just probably (if negative) means that you have non-celiac gluten intolerance, which is an answer by inference. And you do not have to wait for the results of the biopsy - you can start eating gluten free right away and look forward to feeling better.

I would echo the 'Shroom's advice here and just add...it will be over before you know it.

No one likes these tests, hon...but you are doing the right thing, ruling out what may or may not be going on and taking care of your health. Best wishes.

I think I just needed to whine for a little while! :P

I will be glad I did it when it is over! But for now I am dreading it. Mainly the colonoscopy but hey people get them everyday. Now I am just one of them!!! B)

I have thought about going gluten free after my biopsy is done. Especially if worse comes to worse and I don't get any answers that may be my only option!!!

Will keep yall posted and I promise to try not to whine & cry anymore!!! :P

Hey, whining and ranting is one of the reasons this place exists :P Everyone needs to do it every now and again. Just don't make a habit of it :ph34r:

I whined, too, as I was so dreading both procedures. But what a relief to get them over with!!! I hate any invasive procedures. After my EGD, I told my GI that I was going gluten-free that day. I would suggest the same to you as you don't need to wait for the results as it takes a week or so to get the pathology reports. You may find your answer and start feeling somwhat better right away. It's not uncommon to have negative blood tests and a positive biopsy.

ETA: And you'll get to bring home beautiful colored pictures. :lol:

Frankly, I think the prep (and the anticipation) is worse than the procedures...they put me right out and I did not feel a thing. :blink:

Like I said...it will be over before you know it, hon!

IrishHeart said what I was just going to say. The thought of it was FAR worse than the real thing for me. After waking up after both procedures (which were easy peasy) I told my husband I could do it again the next day! The prep wasn't great but not nearly as bad as I expected. I'm not just saying it to be kind - it's true! :D

Don't forget to request 8-11 biopsies, though, for greater accuracy.

My doc warned me that he wasn't a huge anesthesia user for colonoscopy, which didn't bother me. I'd seen the procedure done many times in nursing school. The prep was sucky, but the actual test was FASCINATING! I was awake for the whole thing and watched it all on the TV screen and could ask tons of questions. It was so mildly uncomfortable that it's barely worth mentioning... and if you're asleep (as you will be if they're doing the endo too)... you won't feel a thing.

Actually, for one of my colonoscopies, I woke up briefly and watched for a while....it WAS pretty interesting!! :)

aww!! you guys are great!! I know it will be ok it's just that ol fear of the unknown thing going on!! :P

We are going on vacation a week after my procedures so I am guessing that my results could be in during our vacation. at least that will help me get through the procedures. Just knowing that rest & relaxation is only a week away!!!

      Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.

      Calcium levels as measured in the blood can be quite deceiving as the body will rob calcium from the bones to meet demands for it by other bodily functions. Also, supplementing with calcium can be counterproductive as it tends to raise gut pH and decrease absorption. More often than not, the problem is poor absorption to begin with rather than deficiency of intake amounts in the diet. Calcium needs an acidic environment to be absorbed. This is why so many people on PPIs develop osteoporosis. The PPIs raise gut pH. And some people have high gut PH for other reasons. Low pH equates to a more acidic environment whereas high pH equates to a more basic (less acidic) environment.

      Kind thanks for all this valuable information! Since my Folate was/is low and also my Calcium, there IS a chance I am low in B vitamins... My doctor only measured the first two, oh and Zinc as I has twisted her arm and guess what, that was mega low too. So who knows, until I get myself tested properly, what else I am deficient in... I did a hair mineral test recently and it said to avoid All sources of Calcium. But this is confusing for me as my Ca is so low and I have osteoporosis because of this. It is my Adjusted Ca that is on the higher side and shouldn't be. So am not sure why the mineral test showed high Ca (well, it was medium in the test but relative to my lowish Magnesium, also via hair sample, it was high I was told). But anyway, thanks again for the VitB download, I will look into this most certainly!

      Hello good afternoon, I was wondering if anyone has ever brought their anti-allergy pills? I have been wanting to use their Cetirizine HCI 10mg. They are called HealthA2Z and distributed by Allegiant Health.I’m also Asthmatic and these allergies are terrible for me but I also want to be sure they don’t have any sort of gluten compound.    I have tried calling them but to no avail. Has anyone ever used them? If so, did you had any problems or no problems at all?    thank you
