Bloated Stomach

Does anyone else have trouble with a bloated stomach? Even when I lose weight, I still can't lose it around by abs. I have trouble finding pants to fit. I have to buy bigger sizes for my stomach and then they are baggy in legs. I can't stand anything tight on my stomach. I wear stretch pants now instead of jeans, which I hate. This has only been since I have started having all these stomach troubles. Is anyone else bothered by this?

It is a common problem. It does get better with time and the longer you are gluten-free the better it gets. Unfortunately, the old addage of diet and exercise applies here even more for us. The first inkling of gluten and we swell up like balloons again.

It is one of my most annoying pet peeves!

I have always had a flat stomach - and now

even with lots of daily exercise and being

exceptionally careful with my food, health/skin

products and surroundings, I still have

a bloated stomach. It is not as bad as

it once was - but it is not flat the way it

used to be!

I have the same thing. It drives me crazy 'cause I'm a bit of a work out nut - and since I started getting sick haven't been able to because I haven' thad the energy. It's kind of nice to know that it's not just me slacking off that's causing it but grrrrr.

Are you gluten-free? Do you have any dairy issues? (Lactose intolerance can cause significant bloating as well...)

I have to be almost fanatical about my diet and exercise. But sometimes just when my abs really start looking ripped the bloating hits. There just isn't anything I can do but be vigilant about my diet and exercise.

I put on over 12kg by eating protein with every meal, 3 to 5 times a day. Eggs, Chicken, Tuna, Turkey etc. I stay away from too much red meat as it can be inflammatory. Scott is correct. I've come across a bunch of Coeliac PT's on Tiktok and Instagram. They all say the same thing, the key is getting enough protein and consistency.

It's great to hear that eliminating gluten has helped alleviate symptoms like eye burning, which is a significant and positive change. The first and most important step is to ensure you're consuming enough protein throughout the day to support muscle repair and growth, which can be challenging with a busy schedule. Since you're already physically active at work, adding focused strength training just 2-3 times per week can make a major difference. Bodyweight exercises like squats, push-ups (modified if needed), and lunges, or using resistance bands at home, are excellent, efficient places to start. Remember, consistency with these short sessions and prioritizing post-workout recovery, including good sleep and hydration, are just as crucial as the workouts themselves. It's a smart, gradual process at any age.

Trader Joe's carries a good variety of affordable gluten-free foods like bagels, hamburger buns, pasta, etc. I like Franz Gluten Free bread, which is available at my local Costco. Food For Life and Little Northern Bakehouse (advertisers here) also make excellent gluten-free breads. Costco also sells gluten-free pizzas, crackers, gravy, etc.
