Avatars Suggestion

I was wondering if the powers that be might install some more avatar packs on the board. I've been so foggy lately I forget usernames and with the limited number of avatars available people are using the same ones over and over. I'm finding it very confusing. "Oops, that person with the kitten is a new member and not who I was thinking of!"

I know there will still be overlap unless folks upload something unique, but some people find it difficult to set up pictures for upload and prefer the built-in avatars. Perhaps with more avatars to choose from there might be less overlap? Or maybe everyone will gravitate to the kitten anyway.

And then there are people like me who like to change them up all the time! :P

You can always get your own pics. That's what I did.

I'm not sure everyone finds resizing and uploading a picture easy. :P

I don't know if this will help...but I hate computers and I totaly understand what your saying...this is what we did!

My son made me a folder saved to my desk top (that way its easy to locate)...I went to google and clicked on IMAGES...then I typed in COUGARS ( its my nickname and user name)...I found a picture I liked..RIGHT CLICKED...and hit COPY....then I went to worddocument ( which I also keep on my desk top (for easy acsess) and RIGHT CLICK...and hit paste....then you go to the far left top of the page and click on FILE..click..SAVE AS..It will then give another window with options where you want to save...on the left of this will be DESK TOP..CLICK...and you will see your new folder...click on that! It will open up and then you tittle the picture..and click save..Your new picture will be in your new folder!

NOW go to celiac forum...log in...go to your profile...go to EDIT PROFILE... go to Avitar picture... it will give you options...one will be to down load a picture from a file on your computer...CLICK...now you can access your desktop folder...and WALA!!!

your in!!!! YEA!!!! :D:D:D

I know this may be a bit over wellming..( I'm not making fun...I'm being serious!)

But if you copy this down first...the just take it real slow...you'll learn a new thing...it will be fun...and you'll feel really good about your self when your done! brain fog is a b%$@#...beleive me I know!!! and its real fustrating learning new things especially when its trouble just following directions...its easy to get confused...been there..done that! thats why your going to try this...at your OWN pace..(after you copy it down)...and its going to make you feel GREAT!!!like I said I HATE COMPUTERS!!! But I felt so good just acomplishing such a simple little thing...its not as simple when you have trouble concentating like we do...so GO FOR IT...HAVE FUN!!!

I hope this helps!!! :rolleyes::P:D:D

Oh and I didn't have to resize any thing...I guess it did that when I saved it to my folder?!..I don't know but if the first picture doesn't work...try saving a smaller picture!

THIS IS FOR ANYONE FOLLOWING THIS THREAD WHO NEEDS HELP WITH THIS!

And Skylark I wasn't implying you couldn't do this...obviously you have a unique advitar allready...but I agree not everyone knows how...

this is a tecnical thread...there needed to be some advice...not just critisizm from those who are more computer savy! ;):D

cougie23 Explorer

I do agree though...for those that just want to find a suitable pic that fits their personality...without all the hassle...WE NEED MORE AVITARS!!!! THANKYOU!!!

not everyone feels up to searching the net for the perfect pic.let alone going through all the steps to get it in the site just to post it up...its exhausting just thinking about it!Besides its a well known fact that Celiacs get tired easily..distracted and confused...especialy newbies! LOL :blink::D (not to mention spelling errors...did I mention foccus problems!)

In response to your questions regarding probiotics.  I have had Celiac for 40 years.  Stomach issues: digestion, IBS to chronic constipation, bloat after eating anything.  I was unable to eat a healthy variety of foods, tried probiotics supplements - some made me worse, others made no difference.  After reading about people with Crones, IBS, etc, who made their own probiotics I started making Milk Kefir: not water Kefir. There are 10 probiotics in milk KEFIR. After 3 weeks I was able to eat more, no gas, no IBS.  If you have a computer just ask for videos on making milk Kefir. I branched out and make my own Kombucha for even more probiotics. I do not make my yogurt because there are only about four probiotics in that. I started this when I was 82 and I still make my own Kefir and Kombucha. My stomach issues were fixed with the Milk Kefir alone. If you decide to try making it, make certain you order MILK GRAINS. The finished product tastes a bit like Buttermilk. I hope this helps in your journey to good health.

Help me out here. Lauren Dam gluten-free beer from Spain is listed as gluten free. Yet its made from Barley Malt. I thought barley and any form had gluten. Anybody have any more information about it?

Ferritin levels.  And see what your hemoglobin looks like too, that will tell you if you are anemic?  You can have 'low normal' levels that will not be flagged by blood tests.  I had 'low normal' levels, my lab reading was. c12, just over what was considered normal, but I had small benign lesion on my tongue, and sometimes a sore mouth, and a consultant maxillofacial ordered an iron infusion for me as he felt my levels were too low and if he  raised them to 40, it would help.   Because you are not feeling 100% it might be worth looking at your levels, then discussing with your doctor if they are low normal.  But I stress, don't supplement iron without your levels being monitored, too much is dangerous.

Hi Katht -  I sympathize with your struggles in following a gluten-free diet and lifestyle. I found out that I had Celiac Disease a few months before I turned 70. I just turned 89 and it has taken me almost 20 years to attain a fairly normal intestinal  function. I also lost a lot of weight, down to 100 lb. down from about 140 lb. What Trents wrote you was very true for me. I am still elimination foods from my diet. One person suggested you keep a food diary and that is a good idea but it is probably best just to do an elimination diet. There are several ne and maybe one for celiacs. I used one for a while and started with plain rice and zucchini and then added back other foods to see if I reacted or not. That helped a great deal but what I did not realise that it would only very small amounts of some foods to cause inflammation in my intestine. Within the last few years I have stopped eating any trace amounts of hot peppers, corn and soy(mostly in supplements) and nuts, (the corn in Tylenol was giving me stomach aches and the nuts were causing foot pains). Starting an elimination diet with white rice is better than brown rice that has some natural toxins. In addition it is very important to drink sufficient plain water. You can find out how much to drink for your height and weight online. I do have difficulty drinking 48 ounces of water but just recently have found an electrolyte supplement that helps me stay well hydrated, Adding the water and electrolytes may reduce muscle cramps and gag spams you wrote about. . Also buy some anti-gluten enzyme capsules to take with meals. I use GliadinX advertised here. These are a lot of things to do at one time as they reflect my 20 years of experience. I hope you do what you can manage to do over time. Good luck and take care.
