Am Sick From Texas Roadhouse

I saw they had a ton of gluten free options including chili, steaks, fish etc.. I ordered a filet steak (and per recommendations said to not use the grill shortening) and a salad and cup of chili. I also had a little bit of my husbands baked sweet potato. I feel so sick right now.. headache, foggy, etc. Grrrrr! Im thinking they did not listen and used the grill shortening.

I had the dressing on the side (i dip my fork tines in) and 1/2 way through the dressing I noticed there wa an old CROUTON buried in my dressing. I've not been super sensitive about cross contamination so far and didnt eat the crouton of course but i had been dipping my fork in until i found it. then stopped eating the salad. I did tell server about gluten-free.

irritating.

And what did the server say? Did you at least eat for free??

I don't eat dressing but have found the crouton buried in the salad many times and so has my daughter. I've even been told at some restaurants that it's hard to avoid because the croutons fly everywhere. I prefer to eat at places that don't serve croutons at all but there aren't very many. I wish restaurants would do the prepackaged croutons like they do with Saltines. Sorry you got glutened.

I thought that Texas Roadhouse did away with their "gluten free" menu?

wjp Newbie

As far as I know Texas Roadhouse does not have a gluten free menu. But our local Texas Roadhouse's manager happens to have Celiac so I have eaten there many times safely. But one time after eating half of my salad, I came across a couton. The manager stated that a new employee didn't realize the importance of making a new salad if they accidently start to put coutons in it. He explained to me that they keep their salad mixings on one side of the kitchen and their coutons on another counter so it didn't get in there by mistake. He informed the employee of their mistake and has not happened since. He told me their chili is not gluten free. I'm lucky, he keeps me safe!

I'm betting the gluten reaction didn't happen until well after they had left the restaurant and had already paid. And while I expect restaurants to be careful, I never expect a free meal. Eating out is ALWAYS risky. I'm the one deciding to take the risk.

The PP's are right. They don't have a gluten-free menu anymore. This is the statement from their website:

"While we recognize that some guests have specific dietary needs, we are no longer able to offer our gluten-free menu at this time. It was a very difficult decision, but we concluded that due to the multi-use of utensils, supplier changes, substitutions, and the possibility of human error, we could not offer our guests a total assurance that the items were indeed 100% gluten-free. As such, we decided that the best approach was for the management team at each restaurant to work with guests individually to ensure that they can make the most informed menu decisions. Please ask to speak to your location's Managing Partner, who will be happy to accommodate any requests or provide information about our food and preparation. Thank you for your interest in Texas Roadhouse!"

If you saw a menu somewhere online it may have been an old one it may have been a list of items other people have been able to get to eat safely working wiht their individual managers. Always go to the restaurant's website directly to find out the most up-to-date info. Sorry you had to learn the hard way that your restaurant is not safe. :(

Is there a digestive enzyme that helps build a healthier gut? I see people taking them but not sure what really works

So the tTG-IGA at 28 is positive for celiac disease. There are some other medical conditions that can cause elevated tTG-IGA but this is unlikely. There are some people for whom the dairy protein casein can cause this but by far the most likely cause is celiac disease. Especially when your small bowel lining is "scalloped". Your Serum IGA 01 (aka, "total IGA") at 245 mg/dl is within normal range, indicating you are not IGA deficient. But I also think it would be wise to take your doctor's advice about the sucraid diet and avoiding dairy . . . at least until you experience healing and your gut has had a chance to heal, which can take around two years. After that, you can experiment with adding dairy back in and monitor symptoms. By the way, if you want the protein afforded by dairy but need to avoid casein, you can do so with whey protein powder. Whey is the other major protein in dairy.

hi, i want to say thank you to you and @trents   . after 2 phone calls to my GI, her office called me back to tell me that a blood test was “unnecessary” and that we should “follow the gold standard” and since my biopsy did not indicate celiac, to follow the no dairy and sucraid diet. i luckily have expendable income and made an appt for the labcorp blood test that day. i just got my results back and it indicates celiac disease i think 😭   im honestly happy bc now i KNOW and i can go gluten free. and i am SO MAD at this doctor for dismissing me for a simple blood test that wouldn’t have cost her anything !!!!!!!!!!! im sorry, im so emotional right now, i have been sick my whole life and never knew why, i feel so much better already   my results from labcorp:   Celiac Ab tTG TIgA w/Rflx Test Current Result and Flag Previous Result and Date Units Reference Interval t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA 01 28 High U/mL 0-3 Negative 0 - 3 Weak Positive 4 - 10 Positive >10 Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) has been identified as the endomysial antigen. Studies have demonstrated that endomysial IgA antibodies have over 99% specificity for gluten sensitive enteropathy. Immunoglobulin A, Qn, Serum 01 245 mg/dL 87-352

      Thank you this really helped.

Okay that is really good to know. So with that being positive and the other being high it makes sense she diagnosed her even without the endoscopy. So glad we caught it early. She had so many symptoms though that to me it was clear something was wrong.   yeah I think we had better test us and the other kids as well.
