Diary Free Probiotic

Can you guys tell me the names of any probiotics you use that are Gluten-free Casein-free, please? I believe many are cultured in dairy. I'm hoping to find one that's not crazy expensive. Chewable ones available for children are welcome too. I've been using Primadophilus for years, but stopped using it when I began to eliminate casein.

Ack! Dairy not Diary. I hate typos.

Anyone?

I use Jamieson but I believe it is a Canadian product. I just started it a few days ago and am afraid it is making me quite ill. Hopefully this will pass!

organicmama Contributor

That one says it has come into contact with dairy and soy :(

Oh, sorry! For some reason I thought it was DF and SF. I must have been thinking about another of my Jamieson supplements.

This must make it extra tough and frustrating for you!

I still need to find one. I was using one that said it was non-dairy but I could not verify if it was gluten free. It was making me feel off so I stopped using it. I need to get another one I guess and try again. I just really don't want to mess up my digestive system anymore. I've been trying to eat natural probiotics like coocnut milk kefir and pickles but I'm finding that these foods make me extremely gassy. Can anyone tell me if it's normal to have gas and bloating from probiotics? will it eventually go away or is this a sign that I have really messed up gut flora?

We are huge fans of Custom Probiotics. They gave us a sample that lasted about a month. We were sold! They are pricy up front but they work out to about $10/month.

DS is gluten-free, dairy, egg, soy, fish, shell fish and a few others free.

Jarrow Formulas makes an allergen-free probiotic. They're well-trusted and high-quality. Fairly common so shouldn't be hard to find.

My son just started taking Florajen4Kids. It's gluten, soy and dairy free. It does say on the back "may contain trace amounts of digested casein or carbohydrated derived from corn. I don't have to avoid casein so i really don't know much about it to know if there are different types and if this would work for you or not.

Most of them have trace amounts of dairy, which is what I'm trying to avoid. I think the Jarrow will work for me. Just need to find a children's chewable now.

Look into Country Life's Power-Dophilus, link below. I've used this and Dr Ohira's probiotics and honestly prefer Country Lifes. It's completely allergen free, dairy free as well as I have issues with dairy and soy myself. Last but not least, it is very effective. I've had considerable healing thanks to probiotics, especially in the food allergy area. It reduces symptoms greatly ;]

Best of luck!

You might also consider a low iodine diet as iodine is know to exacerbate dermatitis herpetiformis. But be careful with that as well as there are health problems that can accrue from iodine deficiency.

Hi, Yes, the rash has gone. I still get the itches but there is nothing to see now, apart from a lot of discoloured areas where the rash was worst. Occasionally I get a single lump come up, a bit like hives, but no bigger than a pea and it goes after 24hrs and a steroid cream application.  And yes, giving the gluten-free diet 110%. Very careful about any cross contamination.  This is my fifth autoimmune condition so well and truly on that bandwagon.

Welcome to the the celiac.com community, @suek54! Is the Dapsone getting the rash under control? Are you practicing a gluten free diet yet? The only known cause for dermatitis herpetiformis is celiac disease.

Hi Im new to this game, so bear with me.  May through to December last year totally miserable, covered literally head to toe in the worst rash ever, itching like I just cant explain. After seven different medics told me just to "keep putting the cream on, whatever it is will go in the end" finally one lovely doc diagnosed dermatitis herpetiformis. Biopsy 6 weeks ago and Dapsone, which I seem to be tolerating OK so far.  The NHS is in permanent backlog so no result yet but just wanted to say hello to anyone else with this maddening condition.

I know gluten free proteins like eggs and yogurt but nuts especially trail mixes are tricky as they are hard to find certified gluten free trail mixes especially w/o added sugars. I agree subscription boxes are hit or miss I think I have found RXBar with simple ingredients no added sugars gluten-free might be a great protein bar.
