Bite Size

Hey all,

I remember reading a post awhile back about bite size candies having gluten, like Snickers.

Today I had the small Reese's and York Peppermint Patties with no reaction and of course I read the ingredients which looked fine, but I just thought I'd ask you all.

Does anyone know if these are safe?

BTW, I haven't seen celiac3270 around lately. Are you still here?:)

Jenn

The bite size of snickers and that stuff is gluten free. The poppables are NOT gluten free though.

celiac3270 is having computer issues...you can find more about that in the Gab Room

I thought it said in the Delphi list that bite-size snicker bars were not gluten-free... it could have been another bite-size though....

In the USA all sizes of the following are gluten-free: Snickers, Snickers Munch, Snickers Almond, Skittles bite size, Starburst, Dove, 3Musketeers, MilkyWay Midnight (all other MilkyWay's are not gluten-free), all M & M’s except Crispy.

M & M Mars will clearly list wheat and barley in the products. The rep said they did not use oats or rye in the candy products.

M&M's (800.551.0702) (vp=09/24/02)

The following are gluten-free: Snickers (except mini's in Canada); Skittles; Starburst; Dove (milk & dark choc); Mars Almond Bar; 3Musketeers; MilkyWay Midnight (all other MilkyWay's are not gluten-free). All mini versions of the above are gluten-free except Snickers in Canada)

I think the Snickers in Canada are not gluten-free, but in the U.S. seems to be okay.

Cheers!

Scott I also have different symptoms than most people. It affects me bad. Stomach ache, headache, nauseous, heart racing, whole body shaking, can't walk then my throat starts to close. It attacks my nervous system. The only thing that saves me is a 1/2 of Xanax...it calms down my nervous system

Scott Adams. I was dealing with a DR that didn't care about me being celiac. I repeatedly told him that I was celiac and is everything gluten-free. He put an acrylic lens from j&j. I called the company to ask about gluten and was told yes that the acrylic they use has gluten....then they back tracked immediately and stopped talking to me. The Dr didn't care that I was having issues. It took me 6 months and a lot of sickness to get it removed.... which can only happen within 6 months. The Dr that took it out said that it was fused and that's why I lost vision. If they would have removed it right away everything would be fine. He put in a silicone one that was gluten-free and I've had no issues at all in the other eye. Do not do acrylic!

Welcome @Martha Mitchell, I too would like to know more about your prior lenses, and especially about the potential of gluten in lenses. In theory this should not harm most celiacs, as the autoimmune reaction normally begins in the gut, however, in those who are super sensitive or have dermatitis herpetiformis it may be a potential issue.

It's most likely going to be a celiac disease diagnosis based on your blood test results, but wait for your doctor to give you a green light for going gluten-free, as they may want to do additional testing. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):
