I Feel So, So Sick :(

Yum Cougie! I might just do that with some apples tonight for supper :)

In other news, I think I've glutened myself  It really annoys me too, because I ended up making a big pot of yummy chicken and vegetable soup tonight - nice and gluten free. Then I made tuna mornay for hubby and the kids. Did I use gluten-free flour for the sauce? No! I didn't even think about it because I wasn't eating it.

I put a couple of spoonfuls in the pan and Poof! A big cloud of gluteny dust. I think I ingested some because almost immediately I got a pain in my chest like there was a big lump in the middle of my ribcage. I felt totally fine before. A couple of hours later now and I've got little crampy pains in my stomach :( So yeah, less than a full week into my new diet and I'm glutened already (I think). And I didn't even eat anything!

I highly doubt there's gluten in canned tuna...FWIW, many times it does contain soy (either soy or soybean oil), which some people cannot tolerate.

hi you could have a problem with Niteshades....raw tomatoes, potatoes, peppers and eggplant...google this

good luck

I don't remember where I read that recently...it was on one of the gluten do's and don'ts lists I came across while googleing....but It was included under the catagory of "prossesed"meats....I think to keep it in one lump better? I can't remember exactly...but I remember thinking....REALLY....WAS THIS REALLY NESSASARY!!!!!?????

WHAT'S NEXT????!!!! Gluten in my bottled water?<_< who's brillent idea was it to gluten everything up anyways!!!!????:blink:

If I can find it again...I'll tell you which site it was on...but I need to find it again. :D

You are so right!!!

I was defineatly miss informed!!!

I couldn't find the article I read...(sometimes I'll save the more informitive sites in my computerfolder under "health"...but when I googled CANNED TUNA ....besides the occasional soy that you mentioned ( and one canadian brand that was flavored with teriyaki) it seemed a very gluten free enviornment! :D

My mistake

Thankyou for the correction...I like tuna...but it does give me a bit of a tummy ache...probably the sandwich part!!!LOL

I miss 12 grain wheat bread!!! :(:P

surfer, I don't seem to have a problem with nightshades at this point, but it's something I'll be watchful of as I go along.

I just made this same mistake. I just ate some chocolate and feel horrible!!! Also, I was thinking that because Hershey;s is gluten free that Godiva would be too (Big Mistake) I am so nauseous now ughh! This is a very hard transition, I agree!

Twinklestars Contributor

It is hard. Especially when you have to be conscious of so many things! I imagine over time it will become almost second nature though :)

I am paying for my glutening this morning with really bad joint pain, nausea and stomach trouble :(

Twinklestars Contributor

Well my stomach has settled down to only mild cramping, but I feel wiped out! My joints are still niggling enough to make me uncomfortable as well. But the worst thing is an increase in my anxiety. I have suffered very badly with anxiety for years, and I noticed it settling down (slightly) in the last couple of days. But now I feel anxious and twitchy over nothing. Can I really react like this to gluten I didn't actually eat? Well, I suppose I ate some, but it was flour, so wasn't much!

Cougie,

Pepsi is gluten-free. Caramel color is gluten-free. We can't seem to shake off the myth about caramel color. In the US and Canada, it is made from corn. Even if it was made from wheat, as is the case in some European sources, it is so highly processed that there is no detectable gluten left in the coloring. It then becomes a very small part of the final product.

Cola products contain caffeine and phosphoric acid, both of which can irritate the digestive system.

Twinklestars Contributor

Thanks psawyer for the info. I don't drink cola drinks but it's always good to add info to everything I'm learning :)

Cougie, we don't have trader joes here. We are lucky to have lots of places that stock fresh whole foods though, and lots of local markets.

Welcome to the  forum @maylynn! Have you had a follow-up endoscopy/biopsy of the small bowel to check for healing of the villous lining? If not, it's about time one was done. As Scott mentioned, I also wonder if you have food intolerances in addition to gluten. Oats (even gluten free oats), dairy, soy, corn and eggs are some of the most common ones in the celiac community.

Is your gluten-free diet strict? Do you eat out in restaurants? If so, you could be getting contamination, and over time that can slow recovery. You may want to get a follow up celiac disease antibody panel done to make sure that your levels have gone down since your last tests. Also, have you had various nutrient levels checked via a blood test, and have you been taking vitamin & mineral supplements since your diagnosis?  The most common nutrient deficiencies associated with celiac disease that may lead to testing for the condition include iron, vitamin D, folate (vitamin B9), vitamin B12, calcium, zinc, and magnesium.    Do you still have celiac disease symptoms?  Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal. Hello!  I am here as a last result, hoping for some advice, similar stories, etc. When I was 17, I was diagnosed with Celiac disease. By the time we figured it out my iron levels were so low I had to get infusions, and I had lost 20lbs. in two weeks going from a 5'11 130lbs woman to a 110 lbs. Now, I am 21 and have gained 4 lbs since. Every time I eat a meal, I get three bites in and feel so full that I feel sick. I can't eat a full meal. Something else has to be wrong right? This can't just be more "normal" right? I have done test after test and no doctor in my area can figure anything else out. They have told me I most likely have shrunken my stomach by now with how little I am eating so that has to do with some of the sick feeling. What have you done to gain the weight back? Foods? Workouts?

Thank you so much, Scott. I find it incredibly daunting navigating this celiac space and I find comfort in your wealth of knowledge. Thank you 🙏🏻
