Was this on the deli or prepackaged from a factory/frozen?

I don't see any gluten ingredients listed.

If it was the deli you must think of it as "restaurant food", so cross contamination issues can arise. I believe Whole Foods openly says their delis are not gluten-free friendly ( meaning they don't care if they cc you).

If it was frozen from a factory there's a low to no chance of cc, unless the label said "processed in a facility that also processes wheat". Opinions differ on eating food processed in a shared facility. Some companies are great at cleaning equipment, others aren't. It's a live and learn situation, and up to you.

Damn it, it was deli. Prob got some cross contamination. I don't feel bad right now, just sleepy from getting about 9 hours of sleep in two days and a little tension headaches. Can't believe I messed up already. I am sticking with straight fruits, veggies and lean meats from now on.

You didn't mess up. And unless you feel bad it's all good.

It's just a risky place to eat, but no riskier than going to a regular restaurant and choosing a "gluten free" item when the restaurant doesnt specifically have gluten-free standards/menu in place. And quite frankly, THAT'S always a lively topic of debate. Some restaurants that advertise gluten-free are terrible at it. Some that don't advertise can be great.

You actually did very well, considering it was your first time eating out and going gluten-free.

Starting to experience some neurological symptoms now. Some dizziness, some confusion, overall weird feeling. I've been reading that this could be normal so I'm gonna ride it out.

Ate you keeping the food journal????

Write it down.

Write downeals and any good or bad experiences.

Bubba's Mom Enthusiast

Drink lots of water too! You want to flush your system.

Write what you had and from where in your food log, along with symptoms.

This will pass.

So I'm on day 3 and I don't really know of I feel better or not.

My anxiety is still lingering around and it's getting pretty annoying. The pounding heart thing is not gone, only different. Instead of a constant lightly pounding hear, it's slower and a hard thud. They don't hurt or anything and my heart has been checked out thoroughly (echo, ECG, blood tests, stress test) so I think it's just the nagging anxiety. Also been having some dry eyes and insomnia. The good side of this that my digestive issues ( acid reflux, indigestion, gas, and bloating) and fading rapidly. The eczema on my foot is also clearing up lighting fast. It feels honestly like I am detoxing. It sorta feels like web I quit smoking cigarettes after smoking a pack a day for 4 years.

Right now I am just drinking a ton of distilled water (followed by coconut eater to replenish minerals) and going gluten free (and casein free). Also doing my meditations but I honestly can't seem to calm down. If I relax my chest I feel my heart thudding and it freaks me out. Just going to keep it up and hope these symptoms subside.

Another thing that I found out that shocked me is the connection between lymph nodes and Celiacs disease. About a month ago I got and MRI of my neck because of chronic pain and it turned up that I had an enlarged lymph node in my neck (1.5cm). They said it was nothing and to give it a couple weeks and get another ct scan to see if it's gone ( I have a ct scan set up for next Friday). During these couple of weeks a lymph node under my left armpit swelled up to the size of a pea and was hurting pretty bad. It comes and goes every couple of days. I was worrying myself to death about lymphoma. Well I googled lymph nodes and gluten and this website popped up with tons of testimonials on how people with c Celiacs have all sorts of swollen lymph nodes on account of it is an autoimmune disease. That took alot of weight off my mind.

Went to my doctors yesterday and asked for a Celiacs disease blood test. She looked at me like I was an idiot and assured me it was anxiety. I then went on to say I would find a new doctor is she did not give me that test. She finally submitted but couldn't find the right paper work on her computer so she said come back Monday and take the test. I asked if I had to eat gluten before my test and she reassured me that I don't so.... Idk.

That's where I'm at guys.

Here are the tests: Open Original Shared Link

Print this out and take it with you. Tell her to get a lab sheet and WRITE IT OUT. don't let her put you off again. After you get the tests find a new doctor. Get copies of all your paperwork and labs first - not just these but ALL of them.

You should still be ok at 1 week gluten-free but opinions will differ.

If you are seeing ANY improvement you know you are on the right track. Keep the food journal so you can compare symptoms to meals - it may be more than gluten.

Don't give up - this is helping. You're doing great. You are

seeing rapid and important improvements. You can't expect it all to go away immediately.

You may also want to add key vitamin panels if you don't have them already - iron, magnesium, d, calcium. These are commonly low in celiac patients. You may try adding some EFA's - may help the heart thing.

LOWNskater52 Apprentice

Another thing I forgot to mention was that I constantly have a stuffy nose and tight sinuses. Hopefully this diet should loosen them up.

I'm also stoked to see that Bush's Baked Beans are completely gluten free. How badass is that?

LOWNskater52 Apprentice

Thanks prickley, god knows i need the support.

I had a vitamin panel back in late may and it came back everything was normal. I have found by blood test that I do get potassium deficient often. What are some good gluten free multiple vitamins to buy?

What's anEFA by the way?

LOWNskater52 Apprentice

Oh I also drink coconut water which is chocked full of all of the electrolytes. Nature's Gatorade.

pricklypear1971 Community Regular

Country Life brand makes gluten-free vitamins and supplements, and is well tolerated, reasonably priced. Efa is essential fatty acids.

LOWNskater52 Apprentice

Is EFA like fish oil supplements?

pricklypear1971 Community Regular

Yes.

mushroom Proficient

Just so you know, the full celiac panel consists of the following:

Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA

Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG

Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA

Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA

Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and IgG

Total Serum IgA

Many doctors just want to do the tTG and total serum IgA, but the DGP and EMA are more specific.

Mexican food was my trigger too, and I found out I am just as intolerant of corn as gluten. If you want to be sure of eliminating offenders I would cut the corn too - you can always challenge it again later. :)

LOWNskater52 Apprentice

Hahahaha I keep remembering things that have me 100 percent convinced I have Celiacs.

This past year or so I've had horrible dandruff. I mean it would rain flakes. Typed in celiac and dandruff and sure enough people all over this website have dandruff problems before they went gluten free.

I also had a stool sample analyzed and I have an over growth of bad bacteria and a yeast infection. I was shocked. I thought only women could get yeast infections in their poo-swa's. Google yeast and celiac an what do ya know, pepper with celiacs have trouble with yeast overgrowth.

Now I'm starting to get pissed. How the F, after thousands of dollars and dozens of doctors, did they not even mention Celiacs disease? That infuriates me.

LOWNskater52 Apprentice

Damn it Prickely I had a can of organic corn for lunch today. I hope it doesn't wreck me.

Oh and you bet your ass I'm gonna get the full panel. Regardless of the results, I'm going gluten free. I already feel better.

And I just want to say thank you again to Prickley pear, bubba's mom, jmrogers. You guys are a godsend

If it was organic it should mean that it was non-GMO and less likely to be offensive. :)

pricklypear1971 Community Regular

Ya know, bad yeast infections can wreak havoc. Keep searching on the board and see how your symptoms line up.

LOWNskater52 Apprentice

Guys. I just looked at my foot and the eczema that has been plaguing me violently for about 8 months is gone. I mean G-O-N-E. I'm shocked. I've finally figured out what is wrong with me after a year and a half of searching!

LOWNskater52 Apprentice

So it's day 4 and there has been a little bit better. The eczema on my foot and right hand are clearing up, my anxiety and breathing are under control, and my heart isn't pounding as hard as it has been.

I have developed a rash on the side of my right wrist but it's not too bad; it's just weird. So far though everything is better tho and this diet is definitely worth. I got my celiacs test tomorrow. Regardless of the verdict I'm going gluten free.

LOWNskater52 Apprentice

So it's day four and I'm feeling a little bit better. My anxiety and breathing are under control, my eczema is almost 100% gone, acid reflux is wayy better, heart pounding js minimal,!and I've probably lost 5 pounds in about 4 days.

I have developed a decent rash on my right wrist. Now I looked this up an in a gluten detox, your liver is freed up and it begins to remove toxins through the skin. This is music to my ears.

I have my celiacs test tomorrow and regardless of the verdict, I'm going gluten free for life.

Thanks again guys!

plant sources of calcium, such as spinach, have calcium bound to oxalates, which is not good. best source of calcium is unfortunately dairy, do you tolerate dairy? fermented dairy like kefir is good and or a little hard cheese. i do eat dairy, i can only take so much dietary restriction and gluten is hard enough! but i guess some people do have bad reactions to it, so different for everyone.

i take b12, folate, b2, b6, glycine, Nac, zinc, vk2 mk4, magnesium, coq10, pqq, tmg, creatine, omega 3, molybdnem (sp) and just started vit d. quite a list i know.  I have high homocysteine (last checked it was 19, but is always high and i finally decided to do something about it) and very low vitamin d, 10. have been opposed to this supp in the past, but going to try it at 5k units a day. having a pth test on friday, which is suspect will be high. my homocysteine has come down to around 9 with 3 weeks of these supplements and expect it to go down further. i also started on estrogen/progesterone. I have osteoporosis too, so that is why the hormones.  anyway, i think all celiacs should have homocysteine checked and treated if needed (easy enough with b vit, tmg). homocysteine very bad thing to be high for a whole host of reasons. all the bad ones, heart attack , stroke, alzi, cancer..... one of the most annoying things about celiacs (and there are so many!) is the weight gain. i guess i stayed thin all those years being undiagnosed because i was under absorbing everything including calories. going gluten-free and the weight gain has been terrible, 30#, but i'm sure a lot more went into that (hip replacement - and years of hip pain leading to inactivity when i was previously very active, probably all related to celiacs, menopause) yada yada. i seemed to lose appetite control, like there was low glp, or leptin or whatever all those hormones are that tell you that you are full and to stop eating. my appetite is immense and i'm never full. i guess decades or more ( i think i have had celiacs since at least my teens - was hospitalized for abdominal pain and diarrhea for which spastic colon was eventually diagnosed and had many episodes of diarrhea/abdominal pain through my 20's. but that symptom seemed to go away and i related it to dairy much more so than gluten. Also my growth was stunted, i'm the only shorty in my family. anyway, decades of malabsorption and maldigestion led to constant hunger, at least thats my theory. then when i started absorbing normally, wham!! FAT!!!

Great advise there I agree with the aniexty part, and the aura migraine has I suffer both, I've also read some great books that have helped I'm going too look the one you mentioned up too thankyou for that, I find a camomile tea just a small one and a gentle wind down before bed has helped me too, I suffer from restless leg syndrome and nerve pain hence I don't always sleep well at the best of times , racing mind catches up I have decorated my whole house in one night in my mind before 🤣 diet changes mindset really help , although I have to say it never just disappears, I find once I came to terms with who I am I managed a lot better  , a misconception is for many to change , that means to heal but that's not always the case , understanding and finding your coping mechanisms are vital tools , it's more productive to find that because there is no failure then no pressure to become something else , it's ok to be sad it's ok to not sleep , it's ok to worry , just try to see it has a journey not a task 🤗
    • nanny marley
I agree there I've tryed this myself to prove I can't eat gluten or lactose and it sets me back for about a month till I have to go back to being very strict to settle again
    • trents
You may also need to supplement with B12 as this vitamin is also involved in iron assimilation and is often deficient in long-term undiagnosed celiac disease.
