I have a Ham Flavored Seasoning that I use to use alot in Veggies....I checked the ingredients and I dont see anything that stands out except the ?? concerning Modified Food Starch and Carmel....Here is what is in it...What do yall think??

Salt, Dextrose, Beef Fat (beef tallow, BHA, BHT, and citric acid added to protect flavor) Modified Corn Starch, Smoke Flavored Yeast Powder (Torula Yeast, natural smoke flavoring), Monosodium Glutamate, Seasoning ( salt, hydrolyed soy and corn protein, yeast extract, caramel color, flavoring with partially hydrogenated veggie oil ) cotton seed soybean added, Caramel Color Onion Powder Disodium Inosinate and Disodium Guanylate Oleoresin Paprika.....

I am still new to all of this and if I dont see something in my book that says NO I am still unsure....Please tell me what is ???? in here that you have to be careful with.

I am having a hard time seasoning our veggies with stuff hubby and older son will eat....Jacob will eat about anything PLAIN he doesnt care:)

I guess I could always fix his plain and then do ours:)

Thanks

Everything looks ok to me. The caramel color should be fine if the seasoning is made in the USA. But if I can't find out the answer for sure on this board I always call the company. They are usually very happy to check into it for you.

The flavoring is the only thing that jumps out at me. Caramel Color is ok in the U.S.

Modified corn starch is ok...the only time it is a concern is where they say modified food starch because they do not tell the origin of it and it could be wheat. When it is corn it is fine

Your ham flavoring sounds interesting. Where did you get it and who makes it?

Thanks.

I can only find it at Kroger...It is where the bullion is located in our store...It is made by Orrington Farms...

Thanks for all the info:)

It probably is gluten-free, but why take a chance? The company has a web site (samsfoods.com) with an 800 number. The 800 number might even be on the product.

In general with pharmaceutical products cross-contamination is a much lower risk.

Here is more info about how to do a gluten challenge for a celiac disease blood panel, or for an endoscopy: and this recent study recommends 4-6 slices of wheat bread per day:

Just so you'll know, once you have been gluten-free for any length of time, it will invalidate testing for celiac disease.

Yes. I have not been tested for celiac. It took forever to get diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. lol. I have an appointment with my regular GP later this month and will convey my findings on improved symptoms and see what his thoughts are. Thank you.

@Grahamsnaturalworld, It's never too late.   Have you been checked for Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth?  SIBO can cause ongoing symptoms.  Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) and Histamine Intolerance (HIT) can also be the cause of ongoing symptoms.  The AIP diet can help with these by starving out SIBO bacteria and calming the immune system. Do you include dairy in your diet?  Casein in dairy can cause an autoimmune response the same as to gluten.  Have you been checked for lactose intolerance?  Some people lose the ability to produce the enzyme, lactase, needed to digest lactose, the sugar in dairy because the villi where the lactase enzyme is made are...
