Stress Or Arguments Gives Me A Severe Celiac Flare Up!

i been gluten free since october and my stomach hasnt been perfect but it hasnt been that bad. but last night me and my boyfriend got into an argument and ten minutes later i felt like i had food poisoning. stomach turning, bloating, burning and i had to fight not to throw up. it got better after 20 minutes but ugh still felt icky. no diarrhea or vomiting so i dont understand how it came and left so quickly. usually when i had food poisoning or eat gluten i feel crappy for hours/days. has this happened to anyone else? worse feeling in the world last night.

What you experienced I don't think is real uncommon and most likely had nothing to do with gluten. During an arguement or when badly frightened having a 'gut' reaction isn't unusual. It's where we came by saying like 'follow your gut instincts' and a 'gut wrenching experience'. I hope you were able to settle your differences.

Hi Heidi ! Hope you had a good Christmas before the boyfriend incident.

When people get upset, many people loose thier appetite, get a headache, or various stomach upsets. It could be lots of reasons - adrenaline, increase in blood pressure, mentally caused, etc.

I notice that when a certain person visits my home, I seem to get reactions. I thought that he was glutening me at first. Maybe the stress makes ongoing reactions seem worse. When he is on better behavior and doesn't cause the stress, the reactions don't seem to happen. I don't know.

I've been dealing with this myself. My hubby travels a lot, so is usually only home on the weekends. He gets angry and resentful that he has to clean up after himself if he cooks something glutenous, and gets extra snarky if he sees I've marked some food items with my red marker, which means it's just for me. (like my separate peanut butter)

It seems like lately every time he comes home we end up in an arguement. It affects my tummy/appetite a LOT. I don't know if it's from the release of stress hormones, or the chemicals released by the "fight or flight" response? I was just reading an article about the stress response last night and it said one of the things that happens is the digestive system shuts down so blood can be directed towards fighting or running. It's in our DNA.

I hope you can work things out with your boyfriend so you don't have to deal with that anymore.

I used to get so lonely and look forward to my hubby coming home, but it's getting so I feel relieved when he leaves instead.
