Dairy Allergy! Please Help!

I got results of a IgG test today which said I am allergic to dairy, including casein, whey, and goats milk. My questions are:

-things that say "dairy free", does that include goat milk free? How can I know if something has goats milk in it?

- the doctor also suggested I go organic....I am very sensitive to lots of things. Does eating organic seem to help anyone?

- can you recommend any gluten free/dairy free/organic/tree nut free foods? What tastes good? I went through trial and error for gluten free so this time I would like to have some input from others to make it easier!:)

-will this ever go away? If I'm off dairy but have some in the future, will I have a worse reaction to it than I do now?

Thank you! I'm feeling kind of upset to have to give up dairy, as Reese's and ice cream were some of my favorite foods. I keep getting the urge to cry but I don't want to have a pity party. :( I'm just starting to feel less upset about not eating gluten, and now it's dairy too. How come some people can eat whatever they want and feel fine but some people like us keep getting foods taken away, and feeling worse, and getting more foods taken away, etc....? I know lots of people are much worse off than I am but I just had to get that out.... I'm just a teen who has a lot expected of her...maybe it's stress causing all of this!!!

Anyway thanks. :)

#1 -- NEVER go by things that SAY "Dairy Free"

"Dairy Free" creamers, "Dairy free" whipped toppings...all have dairy (usually casein) in them.

You are going to have to read the labels. I see very few things in "normal" stores with goats milk. The HFS usually have them marked.

Actually I think you mean "Non-dairy". Dairy free is usually dairy free. Non-dairy is NOT dairy free.

Stick which whole food. We are dairy, egg, gluten, most soy, all nut and a few other free. Is there something specific you are looking for maybe that would narrow the search for you?

Also, I haven't seen anything mainstream with goats milk in it. FWIW, I know you aren't talking about a true allergy but a sensitivity, but people who have IgE allergies to cow milk something like 90+% of the time can not tolerate goat (or any other mammal) milk.

Oh, I was told it was an allergy and not an intolerance. And I was told allergies can manifest themselves through upset stomachs and headaches(which is what I have) not just hives or swelled up throat. Is this true? sorry, all the terms confuse me lol!

There are several kinds of immunity. Those responsible for allergies (anaphylactic) are IgE. What you were tested for was IgG (from what I read in the other thread). IgG mediated issues (usually GI in manifestation) are not allergies. They involve immunity but aren't considered an allergy by mainstream Doctors (or those who deal with them too).

I was told that too but when you say that you piss off some people who have IgE allergies. I was actually driven off of an allergy forum by some of those people. Now I call it an intolerance.

Daiya makes a good dairy free cheese if you can tolerate peas.

Intolerances are really a big issue and not something to mess with. I think the reason for differentiating is that an intolerance isn't going to kill you were an allergy can. Because that's a pretty big difference, using the proper terms does become an issue.

Again, they are both serious and the treatment is the same but the ramification of ingesting are totally different! Sorry you got chased off an allergy forum Juliebove.

I’m wondering if anyone has had any experience with the gluten challenge. My teenager completed a gluten challenge over the summer, it ended up being 10 weeks although she stopped being consistent eating gluten after 6. Her previous endoscopy was negative but this past August it was positive after the gluten challenge. If you have done the gluten challenge, how long did it take you to feel back to normal? It took about two months before she got “glutened” again but now she’s having difficult coming back from that and has a lot of fatigue. I’m hoping someone has some advice!

Hello everyone, I was on here a few months ago trying to figure out if I was reacting to something other than gluten, to which a very helpful response was that it could be xanthin or guar gum.    Since then, I have eaten items with both of those ingredients in it and I have not reacted to it, so my mystery reaction to the Digiorno pizza remains.    HOWEVER, I realized something recently- the last time I got glutened and the most recent time I got glutened, I truly never ate anything with gluten in it. But i did breathe it in.    The first time was a feed barrel for my uncle’s chickens- all of the dust came right up, and most of what was in there was wheat/grains. The second time was after opening a pet food bag and accidentally getting a huge whiff of it.    When this happens, I tend to have more neurological symptoms- specifically involuntary muscle spasms/jerks everywhere. It also seems to cause migraines and anxiety as well. Sometimes, with more airborne exposure, I get GI symptoms, but not every time.    My doctor says he’s never heard of it being an airborne problem, but also said he isn’t well versed in celiac specifics. I don’t have the money for a personal dietician, so I’m doing the best I can.    is there anyone else who has experienced this, or gets similar neurological symptoms?

I was suffering from PF just previous to being dx with celiac disease about 25 yr. ago but have not been troubled with it since. Not sure what the connection between the two is of if there is one. But I do know it is a very painful condition that takes your breath away when it strikes.

I have dealt with proctalgia fugax on and off for a year now. It feels almost paralyzing during an episode and they have started lasting longer and longer, sometimes 20+ minutes. I was recently diagnosed with celiac disease and wonder if the 2 are related. I did request a prescription for topical nitroglycerin for my PF episodes and that has helped tremendously!

Hey @Butch68, I also have dermatitis herpetiformis but don't suffer from it anymore. I used to drink Guinness too but I drink Cider now when out on social occasions. I assume you are in Ireland or the UK. If it's any good to you ... 9 White Deer based in Cork brew a range of gluten-free products including a gluten-free Stout. I'm not sure if they are certified though. https://www.9whitedeer.ie/ I haven't come across any certified gluten-free stouts this side of the pond.
