We're going on vacation for a few days to Cape Cod - it will be my first time since going gluten-free. We'll be in Provincetown, Truro, and Hyannis. Can anyone make any recommendations? I read a bad review about a place called Tiny's, and a good review of the Lobster Pot. (I remember the LP from my pre-Gluten-free days, yum!) I'm hoping there are more options than that!

I plan on using it myself when I visit family and friends on the Cape this summer.

I had many a good lobster and martini in the LP pre-Dx myself!

Try the Coonamessett Inn in Falmouth. I was there once about two years ago, the restaurant manager was gluten free and made me a sundae from his private stash of gluten-free brownies. It was also, by far, the best filet mignon I've ever had. At the time, I'd found it because someone left a review on yelp or one of those websites. Now, they have a whole gluten free menu. Granted, it was two years ago, but the fact that they've evolved enough to have a menu is a good sign that they're still doing a good job with it. They have steamed spring rolls on the menu now! Gee, wish I lived closer than four hours away....

Fair warning= the Inn is a reservations kind of place on the weekend, woudn't want you to be dissapointed and get turned away cuz it's too busy! That's really only during tourst season, and I have no idea when that starts, just wanted to let you know.

I am a summer regular on the Cape. I highly recommend the Black Cat in Hyannis. I believe it is on Ocean Street right by the ferries. I have eaten there regularly the past 2 summers. The chef is very well-trained in cross-contamination. I never had an issue. On the weekends, they have great entertainment.

Also, in Falmouth, there is a little place around the corner from the Coonamesset Inn that I think is the best. It's an old home where the locals go, yet THEY HAVE A GLUTEN FREE MENU, and they have regular entertainment. It is called the Nimrod Inn. I am a regular there in the summer - it is very quaint, inviting, and classy. Hope these ideas help.

I have eaten here also, in the past year, and the food was amazing. Their gluten-free menu is excellent and they bring you out warm gluten-free rolls too! It is not a cheap eats place and reservations are strongly recommended in summer but the food was so good, I didn't care how much it costs. I felt great after eating there and I am very, very sensitive. Anyone want to have a party, I am willing to drive the 2 hours down there. ;)

oh i am SO SO SO happy i found this thread!!! im going to Cape Cod in August for the first time ever, and i really need to know my gluten free options!!! especially since most of our eating will be out :/ we're staying at my bf's grandmothers- and he says her fridge is always STUFFED :( im worried, i need SOME room, and i really need daily veggies for regularity :/

We're heading to the Cape in a week and I was reading about an entirely gluten-free restaurant in S. Yarmouth (not far from Hyannis) called Igdy's. The reviews are good and the menu looks tasty. Will be nice not to worry about cross-contact...

I know this is an old topic but the Cape Cod season is going to start again soon.  On the first page of this thread my gluten-free Cape Cod list was mentioned and I really appreciate it.  I do charge $3. for it and I was sorry to have to start charging at all but it's time consuming and I do a lot of work to keep it up.  I email restaurants all the time, I eat at them (a fun part of this "job"), I've worked with places to help them start a gluten-free menu and after all that I update the list, usually monthly.   

 

I try to keep the list as current as possible (I just sent out 20 gluten-free inquires to newer restaurants).  It's 18 pages and counting now!  I'm always happy to discuss various restaurants via email (or here) and I'm more then happy to help with travel plans or ideas of things to do while you are here.

 

Again, thanks for the mention!

I second this place!  I ate there about 3-4 years ago and would love to take a ride just to have a meal here again.  The Cape is so crowded in the summer, I tend to like to go off season. 

They had an amazing gluten-free menu, served hot rolls while everyone else got their bread and the meal was one of the best I have had, gluten-free, in a restaurant, and I am a total food snob.  Snob in the sense that I will eat just about everything but insist on it being cooked the right way.  I had the swordfish and it was delicious and moist.  In fact.......Open Original Shared Link  I just figured I would link the menu for you and now my mouth is watering from just reading it!  Go there!  :D

 

Susan.....I hope you have this one on your list because it's well worth the prices they charge.  Thank you for your work.....it sounds like fun work too!

I've gotten requests for Cape Cod restaurants myself as I live just an hour and a half away so I'll steer them in your direction.

I used to live on the Cape.  Tourist season starts around March/April and continues until about October.

Our real season is July 4 - Labor Day.  We certainly do have people coming on weekends now but there is no back up at the bridges and the roads are still traffic free.  After Labor Day you don't really need reservations anywhere, we do have a nice fall season but its not crowded (meaning no traffic back ups).

 

I probably won't go on a weekend during the season, I'll do a Tuesday or Wednesday.  But thanks for the heads up it's always good to know!

Hi Susan!

I am grateful to you for your list.

I had 3 great meals at the Naked Oyster last fall because you recommended it on your list.

the owner came out to chat with me and then, I posted on Find Me Gluten Free and Trip Advisor

so other Gee Freers can dine there too.

EXCELLENT food.

I just had dinner there myself a couple of weeks ago.  They do a good job.  I feel really lucky that we have all sorts of gluten-free choices ont he Cape.  I was in NYC last week and had some great dinners there but it required a lot of research to come up with the right places.  I guess because the Cape is smaller it's easier but I really do feel we have a lot of restaurant owners and chefs that are embracing what the diner wants.  Many are working with us gluten-free folks and allergy issues too (my daughter is both gluten-free and has a life threatening peanut allergy).

Currently dealing with eye issues, skin issues,blood and colon look fabulous because NOT consuming.       @Charlie1946 You are more than welcome. If you are struggling with mental health do consult with a medical professional and follow their advice if they think you need medication, as I did for a while, but I hope you will find these books as helpful as I did on the road to recovery.

      PPI is the acronym for Proton Pump Inhibitor. Omeprazole is a PPI. PPI's work in a different way than do "H2 blockers" like Tagamet or Pepcid and different also from acid neutralizers like Tums.

      Hi Charlie  I also take omeprazole. It does help. I was diagnosed with fatty liver about 20 years ago. Didn’t pay any attention to it. Then 20 years later diagnosed with celiac disease that I probably had most of my life, looking back. Both of those things caused my liver to fail. I’m not a drinker. When I was diagnosed back in the states I had 30 days to live. After 3 weeks, in hospital I received a liver transplant. I was so sick I was there for 3 months. After that my kidneys went south. I was on dialysis for 8 months and on a kidney transplant list. When we received the call about an available kidney (4yrs) I was so excited! After the transplant the surgeon told my husband I had a 1 in 10 million chase for a kidney transplant as my antibodies were at 99%. Only 1 percent of the population was a match to me. I’m 1 year out from my kidney transplant and have so much energy and life left to live!  Please everyone, listen to your body and get medical advice. I wish I had sooner.   i hope this will inspire more people to Donate to Life.

I went to ER Dec 23 per pcp and got blood drawn sick as hell looking like a corpse bride with dark circles and pale skin.No surprise they said my blood is fine and I had to say thats not what im here for because im always told its fine when not, Ketones waked and then they said I have the flu, ya the flu 24/7 for years battling what the heck is going on.Doctors really need to listen, understand celiac which I've tried to school in past from what I've learned on these websites but it feels as if running in a useless circle. Im to take gabapentin 300. for a week and then go up to 600 since taking this and a other med that was prescribed no longer taking because it makes me awake.This one too is amping me up to not be sleepy when I am tired. Just curious if meningioma or ms is a link to core issue of celiac?I also saw the proclamation but confused because it states that California has two women?  Do I reach out to them? Ive already wrote to my local representative in Stanislaus County.Being celiac and dealing with a circus of clowns that didn't diagnose one doesn't make celiac go away and its not fair or right to us.Im angery, diagnosed by gi doctor by biopsy before foods eliminated from my diet, celiac sprue at the age of 23 in 1994.Now menopause has killed any tolerance i had and body affected badly.No one should go through the medical HELL ive been through.  Also positive HLA-DQ2
