Angry At Everything All The Time

My other symptoms are up and down but slowly getting better. My sleep improved very quickly.

But still I 'fly off the handle' and get really angry and shout at the stupidest, tiniest things. It's making things really difficult at home as I live in a tiny one-room flat with a close friend and our friendship's stretched to breaking point at times because I shout at him for *every* tiny thing. I try to control myself but I just get so wound up and angry.

If this is related to gluten, will it *eventually* go away?

The first time we went gluten free, it took about 2 months to "settle in". Some other mood triggers the household had were casein (milk) and artificial colors (especially red) and artificial vanilla (vanillin). If it doesn't settle in, you may want to look into these.

Thank you.

I was very easily agitated when my thyroid was misbehaving (hyperthyroidism/Graves). Meds now have my thyroid calmed down and I am much more relaxed about things in general. You might consider asking your doc to add a TSH test (and perhaps thyroid antibodies) to your next blood test... Good luck.

It took about 3-4 months before my general outlook improved greatly. Now (12 months later) I wake up early (I was always a bad morning person), I never 'lose it' and my relationship with my 9y/o son has never been better. I want to laugh and take an interest in other peoples stories. Just having a good conversation is amazing! I had to reduce my salicylates (sals for short) and in the past couple of months it has made a massive difference to my dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) and my general outlook of life. I agree with previous posters. You may just need time but keep a food diary in case you have another intolerance.

I believe this was checked last year; the results were normal.

And take out MSG along with the other posters suggestions. I am about 99% free of processed foods and I believe it is what has made the biggest difference. Takes out all the junk and chemicals and chances of cross contamination

Celiac disease is the most likely cause, but here are articles about the other possible causes:

Hi @Atl222 As @trents points out, there could be many reasons for this biopsy result.  I am interested to know, is your gastroenterologist concerned?  Also, are your blood tests showing steady improvement over the years? I remember when I had my last biopsy, several years after diagnosis, mine came back with with raised lymphocytes but no villous damage, too! In my own case, my consultant wasn't remotely concerned - in fact, he said I might still get this result even if all I ever did was eat nothing but rice and water.   My coeliac blood tests were still steadily improving, albeit slowly, which was reassuring.

Welcome to the celiac.com community, @Atl222! Yes, your increased lymphocytes could be in response to oats or it could possibly be cross contamination from gluten that is getting into your diet from some unexpected source but not enough to damage the villi. And I'm certain that increased lymphocytes can be caused by other things besides celiac disease or gluten/oats exposure. See attachment. But you might try eliminating oats to start with and possibly dairy for a few months and then seek another endoscopy/biopsy to see if there was a reduction in lymphocyte counts.

This is a solid, well-reasoned approach. You’re right that “koji” by itself doesn’t indicate gluten status, and the risk really does come down to which grain is used to culture it. The fact that you directly contacted Eden Foods and received a clear statement that their koji is made from rice only, with no wheat or barley, is meaningful due diligence—especially since Eden has a long-standing reputation for transparency. While the lack of gluten labeling can understandably give pause, manufacturer confirmation like this is often what people rely on for traditionally fermented products. As always, trusting your body after trying it is reasonable, but based on the information you gathered, your conclusion makes sense.
