So Over The B Vitamins

I originally noticed that Red Bull (have small can maybe once a week or less) started causing me some nausea and offness, so I stopped those thinking it was something in there. Noticed that with the B-100 I got the same feeling. Low to midgrade nausea, no decrease in fatigue in any way. Even the B-50 and half of one of those causes it regardless of the amount or type (fat vs protein) or amount of water or time of day. I believe I recall feeling the same way with B12 by itself.

I used to think this feeling was from some CC or "healing" phase, but nope. Only happens when I take the Bs. I think a lot of people may not realize that adding stuff like supplements can wreck and already sensitive GI system and you may not be able to tell if you are healing from the gluten because of that supplement response.

Eventually I may get tested or try it in many months from now, but for now, so long B vitamins. Enjoy the toilet flush so I will not take you again without remembering the ick you cause.

Well, I have preached to the empty choir about high- dosing B vitamins without cause, but no one wants to hear me.

They most certainly cause stomach distress and CAN ACCUMULATE in the body and cause toxic levels. Too much B6 will cause parasthesia for example. I had burning nerve pain from too much B-12 and B-6.

No one wants to hear it. Yet, I am living proof.

My doc saw my extremely high results and said STOP TAKING THOSE RIGHT NOW!!!

All that burning and nausea went away. My levels are normal now.

Everyone should get tested for B vitamin deficiency BUT if you are NOT deficient, you need no more than what is in a good multivitamin.

I agree with you completely. I had to make that post so that it was real in my head. I kept going back to the Bs and D every now and then so "they would help me heal" with the same result every time...wrecked system. Vitamin D and the Bs are very, very hard on a lot of us, but they are a bit nudged at times. That fatigue may simply be your worn out body or poor sleep and not a deficiency. You just do not know and taking lots of one vitamin will never answer that questtion.

I hope this does not come off sounding too negative, but I do not think anyone who sees the physician and has been diagnosed for Celiac should be megadosing on any vitamin or taking more than a multi without a test. It just does not really make sense to me. I kind of get it if you are just not going to the doctor although it is ill-advised. The thing is that if you already see the doctor...well..while you are there. Once you have that test, you know for sure what you need or do not need and whether or not it is worth taxing your system to take.

I agree. I tried the Red Bull when it first came out & within minutes of drinking it I got indigestion to die for. Tried it a few more times to be sure it was the Red Bull. It was. I quit.

I find that multivitamins all seem to contain hundreds & hundreds of % over what you need. Why do they go so gonzo on them? Seems like overkill to me.

Hi,   I've started taking calcium citrate supplements from Webber Naturals. It says that it contains no gluten, but not that it is gluten-free. I've reached out to the company by e-mail and they have assured me that it is gluten-free. However, I think I'm reacting to it. I've searched everything else I consume and haven't found any possible source of contamination. I've been looking for other supplement brands that would be certified gluten-free and safe and have found a few options, but none of them ship to Canada. Does anyone know where I could buy calcium citrate supplements (apparently calcium citrate is the one that causes the least constipation, and this is an issue for me). Thanks in advance!

I am so sorry for your long-term pain and suffering. My symptoms are very similar to yours. Diarrhea for seven years now. Two doctors told me to take Metamucil. It didn’t help. Stomach pain, bloating and terrible nighttime diarrhea got worse and worse. I only stumbled upon Celiac as a possibility through a 23andMe genetic test which indicated I had the genetic marker for it. I went to my GP asking for the test and was told sure - I’ll give you the order, but you probably don’t have it. Guess what?  My blood work was off the charts positive. So high of a number, in fact, that the gastroenterologist I was sent to confirmed me even before a biopsy.  The gastro visit was just last week. I’ve been gluten free for a month now. Small improvement so far, but I’m hoping to continue healing.

But there will still probably be times when you will get together with your brother and father in their home when food will be involved. You need to think through how you will handle that. In the meantime, separate your stuff from their stuff and keep it under lock and key if necessary.
