Symptoms That Improved On Supplements And Gluten Free Diet

To encourage you in your Diet and supplement program:

Here are some things that have improved for me. Please I would like others to list their improvements.

Sometimes I feel invigorated after excercise instead of devastated.

High blood pressure lowered to almost athletic level

Orthostatic blood pressure curve normalizes

Dry skin relieved

Dry hay stack hair turns to silky

Insatiable appetite slackened

Dizziness abates

Fatigue becomes infrequent or is based on activity level.

Age spots fall off neck.

Heavy eyes are lighter.

I lost 30lbs and kept it study 3 years.

My gums are getting less likely to bleed.

I have also been getting Chiropractic adjustments and can feel that they help now.

I'm only 1 month in to recovery, but I was severely malnourished - I have no way of knowing if I was more severe than anybody else but I know I have an incredibly high pain threshold and I was reduced to not getting out of bed 2-3 entire days a week.

My "repair" seems to be happening at an astronomical pace.

Fingernails need to be cut every 2-3 days -- previously once a month

I get shooting hairs out of my bald area that grow 2 inches overnight

Skin conditioner not needed - I live in super dry Phoenix and my skin is no longer dry and flaking.

Blood pressure is coming down steadily

Weight is coming down steadily

Ability to exercise is "through the roof" Now, when I work out, the next day I feel stronger instead of weaker.

Depression is gone.

Can't do has been replaced with Can do.

My severe body aches and pains are completely gone, even on days when I run 5-7 miles.

I like this thread. The no constant vomiting and other GI issues is how many of us start here, but it is nice to see all this other stuff that hopefully will help us stay gluten-free.

This is just what I wanted. Thanks, I don't think I was done with my list; however it may come in snatches. Please others can you add to this? I am glad people like it. The more variety in our symptoms shared the more encouraging it can be! There is hope.

This will be my motivational thread as I am just starting the gluten free life.

Hi,

I have severe dermatitis herpetiformis and have had it come and go for the past 4 years. I'm an East Texas girl who loves her fried chicken and gravy, chicken and spaghetti casserole, etc. but the truth is, I suffer from other symptoms besides DH.

Your list has made me more determined to stick to a gluten-free lifestyle. (It ain't easy.)

I have itchy, dry, flaky skin all over my body and scalp.

Thank you for the motivation. I need it.

      Testing can't alone be trusted.  Else why would it take so many years of testing and retesting and misdiagnosis to finally be told, yes you have Celiac Disease. As to what to eat, I like pre 1950 style food.  Before the advent of TV dinners.  Fresh food is better for you, and cooking from scratch is cheaper.  Watch Rachel Ray's 30 Minute Meals for how to cook.  Keep in mind that she is not gluten free, but her techniques are awesome.  Just use something else instead of wheat, barley, rye. Dr Fuhrman is a ex cardiologist.  His book Eat to Live and Dr Davis' book Wheatbelly were instrumental in my survival.

      If you have DH you will likely also want to avoid iodine, which is common in seafoods and dairy products, as it can exacerbate symptoms in some people.       I just want to clarify that what I posted is a category of research summaries we've done over the years, and nearly each one shows that there is definitely a connection to celiac disease and migraine headaches. The latest study said: "the study did indicate some potential causal associations between celiac disease and migraine with or without aura, as well as between migraine without aura and ulcerative colitis...this study did not find evidence of a shared genetic basis..."       Two months ago, I started taking Dupixent for dermatitis herpetiformis and it has completely cleared it up. I can't believe it! I have had a terrible painful, intensely itchy rash for over a year despite going fully gluten-free. See if your doctor will prescribe Dupixent. It can be expensive but I am getting it free. When the dermatitis herpetiformis was bad I could not do anything. I just lay in bed covered in ice packs to ease the pain/itching and using way too Clobetasol. Dapsone is also very good for dermatitis herpetiformis (and it is generic). It helped me and the results were immediate but it gave me severe anemia so the Dupixent is better for me. Not sure if it works for everyone. I cannot help with the cause of your stress but from experience I am sure the severe stress is making the celiac and dermatitis herpetiformis worse. Very difficult for you with having children to care for and you being so sick. Would this man be willing to see a family therapist with you? He may be angry at you or imagine that your illness is a psychosomatic excuse not to take care of him. A therapist might help even if he won't go with you. Also do you have any family that you could move in with (with the kids) for a short time to get away? A break may be good for you both.

      @tiffanygosci, Thiamine deficiency is a thing in pregnancy for "normal" people, so it's exponentially more important for those with celiac disease and malabsorption issues. I studied nutrition before earning a degree in Microbiology because I was curious what the vitamins were doing inside the body.  See my blog.  Click on my name to go to my page, scroll to drop down menu "activities" and select blog.   So glad you're motivated to see the dietician!  We're always happy to help with questions.  Keep us posted on your progress!
