Review My Symptoms?

Hi All,

So I've felt something is wrong with my digestion since I had my first child in 2008. Around this time I also quit drinking alcohol, so I assumed the weight loss was due to that. However, after my second daughter was born in 2010, I've continued to lose weight. My doctor gave me a clean bill of health in August, but I've made an appointment with a GI specialist because of these symptoms:

  • 2-3 loose stools per day
  • one episode of blood on TP & in toilet (last week, which prompted me to make the GI appt)
  • weight loss without trying (pre children averaged 155, now 128)
  • extreme itchy skin but no rash
  • tingling in right hand

Of course I'm also terrified I have colon cancer or some such. Has anyone had symptoms like this? It really feels like food goes right through me and is not getting absorbed.

Any feedback would be great as I'm curious if anyone has shared my experience.

GI would be a good way to go...the blood in your stool could very well be from the irritation of having loose stool so many times in a day.

I'm assuming your doctor did blood work before issuing you a clean bill of health so he/she should have been able to determine if your liver function was within normal limits because after drinking (especially if you we're a heavy drinker) you could develop liver issues which commonly cause itchiness all over...that is NOT to say you have a liver function issue I wouldn't even begin to say that without medical history and blood results.

That said, perhaps an allergist would also be a good person to see...my daughters have food allergies and if they consume dairy or soy they will have loose stool to diarreha of which has had blood in it.

Good luck!!

It could be worth checking out with a GI. Ask for a full celiac panel. TTY IgA and EMA are the most specific an sensitive for celiac, but there are other tests too.

It is possible the blood was from something harmless, but irritating, like hemorrhoids. It is good to check it out though.

Good luck. I hope you feel better.

Hi there Uppity,

My Name is Butch, and I'm new around here. Although I've been lurking only for a few days I've found many of my symptoms here on this board. I've been waiting to introduce myself with my own thread but I did want to jump in here in case I can encourage you.

I have had VERY severe generalized (a-symptomatic) Pruritus for about 3.5 years now. So yeah I can vouch for your itching. I've also had blood in my toilet paper many times in the last 3.5 years. I've had a GI tell me I have bleeding hemorrhoids, (though they don't itch or bother me. Just bleed).

About the only medication I've found to help with the itching is Gabapentin, and Lyrica.

Good luck. Keep us informed.

Butch,

: )

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
