Going Out Tonight!

hello, all!

after the stressful eating out experience on Wed and thesis-writing pressures, i could really use a night on the town. i was contemplating what i'd order at the bar, and i figured i'd stay with alcohols i know are ok for me (e.g. Bacardi, etc -- i'm not being too adventurous yet, like with distilled alchols). however, i started to wonder about the stuff they mix with the alchol -- for example that funky cranberry juice they have that can't really be cranberry juice, same for orange juice. should i avoid that? it comes out of a fountain or whatever you call it, so i'm not sure with all the noise in the club and the crowds and whatnot that i'd be able to verify the source...

good Lord, this disease is tedious!

I actually work at a bar and those cranberry and oj drinks have made me have some sort of reaction....also, be careful when eating out at a bar....they cook everything together , even if you ask them not too, i had to learn my lesson the hard way

thanks, mahee34 (is that your dog in the picture? -- so cute!!). i actually felt kind of slightly nauseated for most of Saturday after having gone out Friday. maybe i'm just being paranoid. but the only thing that might not have been ok was the "sprite"... i asked the bartender if they had sprite or 7-up, just to see, bc it comes out of the same sprayer? (sorry -- not up on my bar terminology!) as the fake oj/cranberry/coke/etc and i wasn't sure if it was even brand name. she said she thought it was Sprite. so i'm not sure about that whole deal...

this disease is going to turn me into a hard liquor girl yet... ;)

I put on over 12kg by eating protein with every meal, 3 to 5 times a day. Eggs, Chicken, Tuna, Turkey etc. I stay away from too much red meat as it can be inflammatory. Scott is correct. I've come across a bunch of Coeliac PT's on Tiktok and Instagram. They all say the same thing, the key is getting enough protein and consistency.

It's great to hear that eliminating gluten has helped alleviate symptoms like eye burning, which is a significant and positive change. The first and most important step is to ensure you're consuming enough protein throughout the day to support muscle repair and growth, which can be challenging with a busy schedule. Since you're already physically active at work, adding focused strength training just 2-3 times per week can make a major difference. Bodyweight exercises like squats, push-ups (modified if needed), and lunges, or using resistance bands at home, are excellent, efficient places to start. Remember, consistency with these short sessions and prioritizing post-workout recovery, including good sleep and hydration, are just as crucial as the workouts themselves. It's a smart, gradual process at any age.

Trader Joe's carries a good variety of affordable gluten-free foods like bagels, hamburger buns, pasta, etc. I like Franz Gluten Free bread, which is available at my local Costco. Food For Life and Little Northern Bakehouse (advertisers here) also make excellent gluten-free breads. Costco also sells gluten-free pizzas, crackers, gravy, etc.
