Fighting Off Sicknesses-Do You Have Trouble?

My daughter has Celiac and has been gluten free for 1 year and 9 months. I saw a post on here about weak immune systems. I have a similar question but different. My daughter does get sick much less often now that she is gluten free but the problem is that when she does get sick she can not get better very easily, I think her Celiac is somehow related but do not know how. Her problem is whatever the sickness is if it makes her start throwing up she can not stop and ends up in the hospital getting fluids for dehydration. Everytime this has happened she has had to be admitted to get over it. Twice they have give her a liter of fluids and some nausea meds and sent her home and it never worked. we were always back the next day. Anyone else have any similar problems or know what we can do about this. Thank you

I do have problems knocking out viruses. I am hoping that continously getting the right nutrients and probiotics will help recovery and eventually help the immune system recover. I hope you will have success in overcoming it. Sorry you both have to go through this and I hope it will be better soon.

I wonder if this will keep happening until we get our B and D vitamins and other nutrients up to where they should be. I just had the flu and it has last more than two weeks. Never in my life has the flu lasted that long or been so bad! So I do think our immune systems take time to get back to normal.

There has been some research showing celiacs are more likely to be hospitalized with the flu: Open Original Shared Link

I'd like to clarify: Is the pain you describe in the area just below your chest constant, or does it only appear when you start moving?

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
