gluten-free Cat Food

I'm seeing a couple of topics about this from the forum pop up on google on an initial search, but nothing especially recent, and the non-message-board results are rather limited. I have a cat who actually prefers dry kibble to wet cat food (best I can figure is that's what he is used to), is fully indoor, and is adult/mature (10 years old).

Am kinda considering trying him on gluten-free cat food (I'm a little allergic to him, and part of why I'm considering trying gluten-free food for him is I am wondering if that will lessen if I start him on gluten-free food), but only if there if gluten-free cat food that is accessible and at least as good for him as what he's getting now. If there is none, that's definitely a line in the sand- my health matters, but my cat's health darn well matters too. That said, it's sort of intuitive that gluten wouldn't be something a cat would "need" in its diet, and I'm assuming it's more often used to make kibble be, well, kibble.

Anyway- anyone have any recommendations?

Grain-free diets for cats and dogs are a trend of late. Numerous options exist in multiple brands. We use Natural Balance and Now! cat kibble. Of the two, Natural Balance is more widely distributed.

Blue Wilderness is grain free and all four of my cats love it. There are other brands that are also gluten free, but my cats didn't favor them. I feel so much safer serving them Blue Wilderness--now I don't have to wash my hands after serving them their food.

I find Blue Wilderness at Petco, but I think PetSmart also sells it.

Our Bella eats Merrick's Before Grains wet and dry food and is healthy and enjoys a fabulous, gorgeous coat.

If I could stand it, I'd eat it with her and have thicker hair, I am sure. :)

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
